We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Beck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been working in Food & Bev all of life, what was supposed to be limited to income while I got through college became a passion and eventually a career and a vocation.
After opening The Cocktail Club in Charleston SC in 2012 my passion for creating delicious and creative beverages transpired into wanting to sell cocktails from a food truck.
The concept for Sunshine Alchemy started this way, quickly evolving to include vegan/ vegetarian food.
Here in GA there is no way to get a liquor license for a mobile unit, so we are limited to private events in regards to selling alcohol.
The challenge to create a delicious veganish menu to compliment the cocktail catering further fueled my passion for creating yummy plant based food.
3 and a half years later here we are!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sunshine Alchemy as a concept is all about taking natural things (grown by the sun) ie. plants, vegetables, fruits etc and combining them to produce a delicious alchemical change- changing one form into another.
The creation of delicious food and beverages using ingredients from Mother Earth grown by the Sun.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow- this is a tough one. Although a week seems long, it barely enough time to get a sample of what Atlanta has to offer.
Activities range from visiting parks and hiking Stone Mountain to biking the beltline and visiting museums and art galleries.
Atlanta is full of culture and creative people flock here to feel BBB inspired and accepted.
Yoga- always I would take my people to my favorite hot yoga classes.. which gives us full permission to enjoy all the amazing dining options.
Buford Hwy and the surrounding area is full of authentic ethnic restaurants to suit every budget.
Landmarks like the Clairmont Club are must for open minded friends visiting the city.
Live music- music is life. You can find so much in the city from seeing my best friends perform as Ethel (@theofficialethel on Instagram) to live Latin bands and dancing to DJ’s and punk shows- whatever lights you up- we can find it.
Korean Spas. JeJu or Spaland- a great place to unwind and relax.
Bars of course, dive bars and high end cocktail bars and everything in between, like I said.. a week is not enough time!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m grateful for every restaurant job I’ve ever had.
From My first position at 15 years old, working the local bbq drive thru window to opening posh high end clubs in Los Angeles. The experience of working many positions in many companies helped to hone my skills and allowed me the opportunity to partner with The Indigo Road in Charleston SC, opening O-Ku as well as The Cocktail Club on King St.
I was blessed to work with this company for close to 8 years, entrusted to write the cocktail menus and train staff at many of the new restaurants the group opened over that time.
Steve Palmer, managing partner of The Indigo Road, has mentored me in the value and importance of culture and hospitality in the restaurant industry.
He taught me that creating an incredible experience for the guest is what keeps them coming back and what is inevitably most fulfilling.
It’s not just about making good food and taking orders.
For every person throughout my life who had taught me about the art of hospitality, I am grateful and honored to carry those values into my own company.
