We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Ballard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Everyone, including myself started out working for someone else but throughout that time became a time where I didn’t want to do that anymore. When I started waking up and hated going to work or saying “hey I wish I could stay home today “ , it sparked something in me. I realized I was on the wrong path. Feeling like that became my motivation to change my career. I was tired of working and not feeling a reward so I started my barbering path. Becoming a barber was something always on my mind but I was afraid of failure. I got over that fear and just done it. Becoming my own boss , my own scheduler, my own accountant , and my own person was the best decision I ever made. I am continuing everyday to become my best self because I changed my thought process and re-evaluated what I wanted in life. Having your own business allows you to be your best self. Cutting hair is my business that’s going to lead me to a bigger business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I used to love to draw when I was younger. I used to could take a picture and look at it and draw what I saw. I love fashion and putting things together to look nice. Having a eye for things like that makes your mind artistic which is a good asset to have in the barber industry. You gotta be able to take something from nothing to something. I think I’m different from Others because I value neatness and presentation. I love taking and changing someone’s appearance with a haircut. It took me 12 years to get where I am today. I hid from my calling until I had nowhere else to hide. I learned along the way to just do it without fear. You have to start somewhere to get somewhere. I want people to know that’s I aim to make every client I service leave happier than they were when they arrived.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend arrived , I honestly wouldn’t know where to take them lol because I’m new here. So I would pull out my handy dandy iPhone and we’ll figure it out together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my number 1 supporter and fan, my wife Tiffany for believing in me and sticking by me. I want all my mentors to know that you are molding me into who I need to be.
