We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarvis Ivery-Corley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarvis, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
God. The main reason why I refuse to give up. I feel like i have a purpose here and my assignment is not completed just yet so everyday I pray and I get through the day. Pushing myself harder each day to to reach the final goal.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im an introvert but it is so easy for me to spark up a conversation with anyone. Even if it’s my first time meeting you. I leave a good impression when I step out of a room so no one will forget who I am. If you would have asked me 10 years ago where would I be I would have said living the American Dream. I would have never thought I would have published my own memoir, wrote and got in a studio and recorded a gospel song or let along have my own teeth whitening business. I had to lose friends, go through a heartbreak, seek counseling and go on a spiritual journey to get to where I am today so it definitely wasn’t an easy path for me. Had to learn that God will remove people out of your life to get to the purpose of your journey. You can’t take everyone with you on your journey. By writing my memoir called “Healing From My Mental Mess” I want others to know who I am and can avoid some of the challenges I’ve been through in life so they won’t make those some mistakes.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So if my best friend has never been here before I definitely let them experience the night life here for at least 3 days. Take them to a couple of day parties rooftops and since I’m a vegetarian, we would of course visit a couple vegan spots. One in particular is slutty vegan. Visit the park, and if any artist is performing while they are here take them to a concert. I’m a foodie so I would hit up more food joints than anything. Maybe even throw in six flags for a day. When they leave me they would be planning the next trip back here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I want to give a shout out to God cause without him I wouldn’t be here today to tell my story. My husband which always pushes me to my full potential. He say go big or go home. My beautiful mom. She’s like my cheerleader and make sure she says she’s proud of me every moment she gets. My mother in law. She make sure that I’m staying on track and not lose focus on my goals. Then I have a few friends that are VERY supportive of the things I have going on in my life..
