We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarrett Boyce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jarrett, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It really started with me seeing other people’s events and being fascinated by how a room could completely transform. I would walk into different spaces and instantly start imagining what it could look like, how the layout could change, what décor would elevate it, how lighting could shift the mood… I’ve always had that kind of eye.

At first, it wasn’t even about starting a business. I actually started out doing balloons for my nephews, just wanting to make their celebrations special and over-the-top in the best way. Then, over time, I started assisting a friend of mine with her events on an as-needed basis, and honestly, it became like an honorary internship. I was the extra helping hands, but I was also soaking everything up; learning how events come together behind the scenes, and seeing how much detail goes into creating an experience.

The more I was in those spaces, the more people started noticing my creative side. They would comment on my vision, my attention to detail, and how I naturally knew what looked good and what needed to be changed. That recognition really sparked something in me, and it made me think: this might be bigger than just helping out. From there, it grew organically; one event led to another, my confidence grew, and eventually I realized this wasn’t just something I enjoyed… it was something I was genuinely meant to do. That’s when the thought shifted from simply creating beautiful moments to actually building something of my own, and that’s how Mind Blown Events was born.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is really about transformation. I don’t just decorate a space, I create an experience. I’ve always been someone who can walk into an empty room and immediately see what it’s capable of. I think in textures, colors, lighting, movement, and mood, and for me the goal isn’t just for it to look good in pictures, it’s for people to walk in and feel something. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and the way I approach every event like it has its own personality. I don’t believe in copy-and-paste design, so I’m intentional about making every celebration feel custom, elevated, and well thought out, from the backdrop to the table settings to the flow of the room.

Professionally, I got to where I am today by starting small and staying consistent. I began doing balloons for my nephews, then I started helping a friend with events on an as-needed basis, which became like an honorary internship for me. That behind-the-scenes experience taught me the real work that goes into creating moments, and over time, what started as simply helping out turned into real demand. It wasn’t always easy, I had to learn pricing, build a client base, manage time, and balance creativity with the business side. But I stayed teachable, focused, and committed to improving, and I learned that consistency will always separate you. Today, Mind Blown Events is built on more than decorations—it’s built on vision, excellence, and intention. I’m also excited and grateful to have expanded the business by opening my own event space, Mind Blown Studios, right in downtown Atlanta, where clients can host a variety of celebrations in a space that reflects the elevated experience my brand is known for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since my best friend already lives in Atlanta, I’d make it a week of the city’s best experiences, more like an Atlanta lifestyle tour than tourist stops. We’d do a full BeltLine day starting at Ponce City Market, walking through Krog Street Market, and stopping for food and photos along the way. I’d take her to some of my favorites like Rock Steady and Toast on Lenox, and just make it a week full of great food, good energy, and new places to explore. We’d make time for the High Museum, the Civil and Human Rights Museum, and a day in Piedmont Park to really enjoy an Atlanta staple landmark. I’d add in shopping in support of Black businesses, maybe a nice spa day, and one fun night out doing something like an event, a concert, or a game night just to keep the energy up. And of course, I’d host a gathering at my event space, Mind Blown Studios, because what better way to wrap up the week than bringing everyone together in a space that represents what I love most, creating unforgettable experiences. Atlanta has so many different sides to it: luxury, culture, food, and creativity and that’s what makes it exciting because you can always find something new to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, my shoutout goes to Natalie Davis. She played a real role in my journey because she didn’t just hype me up, she was one of the first people to genuinely take my creativity seriously. When I was still helping with events and learning as I went, Natalie paid attention to the details I was naturally good at and made me feel like it was more than just “helping out.” That stuck with me. Her support helped push me from simply being creative… to actually building something.
