We had the good fortune of connecting with JaQuay Copeland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JaQuay, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
As a Pillow Designer and Visual Artist, the decision to fully submit my businesses to Christ’s leading has impacted what, when, how, and where I create. As a result, He’s shown me how to create things I never would’ve conceived in my own strength. He’s also taught me resourcefulness and how to effectively maximize my skill set using what I have.

It’s much easier said than done to release my preferences for His, but the return on investment is so much greater. No area is off-limits. When God can trust you to follow His leading with small responsibilities, He’ll reward you with more. I think it’s a beautiful thing when God can trust you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m building Dio Salva, which means God saves, to be more than a luxe, decorative pillow brand. It’s rooted in philanthropy, servant leadership, and evangelism. My main goal is to use the company to help others, and in turn, inspire others to pay it forward.

The brand’s mission is to help create beautiful environments that lead design enthusiasts to feel connected with themselves and others, and the vision is to use design as a vehicle to inform, connect, and inspire the world.

I’m most excited to see how far God’ll take the brand regarding its impact and longevity. As long as I’m obedient to His voice and diligent, I know He’ll bless it as He sees fit!

Regarding how the brand got to where it is today, in late 2019, God downloaded several pillow design concepts into my mind. In 2020, I invested the stimulus check into creating pillow prototypes. In 2021, I developed a detailed infrastructure for the company, and by 2022, I began selling the pillows through e-commerce channels. The brand is still in its infancy, so the possibilities for the future are endless.

The journey hasn’t been easy, but that’s to be expected. Adversity prepares you to properly handle the blessings and burdens that are ahead. Throughout the years, I’ve learned to fully yield to God’s process no matter how intense it is, or how long it lasts. The more you resist it, the more you delay the good you’re longing to see. It’s better to pass the test the first time than to have to retake it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m new to Georgia, so I haven’t had a chance to explore the best places just yet. When I can, the first stop on the list is the Atlanta Botanical Garden since I love nature.

I’d also like to visit the Georgia Aquarium, the High Museum of Art, and the Sun Dial Restaurant. I love watching sports, so a football game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and a basketball game at the State Farm Arena seem fun too!

I’m also excited to visit Change Church. I’m sure there’s so much more to experience, but those are the places I’d start with.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Several people have greatly helped over the years, but my mother and my brother have been at the forefront. Out of everyone, they’re the two people who have helped the most and who I know genuinely care about my well-being.
