We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannece Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jannece, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
I’ve learned many lessons from career, but I would have to say the one that sticks with me the most is that opportunities are not just going to fall in your lap. If you want success you will have to take steps to achieve it every single day. I think sometimes we can fall in to the mindset that having an idea, or starting the business is enough, and the clients should just be falling in line to work with us, but that is not always the case. We have to devote time everyday to becoming an expertise in our business, and building our network. Once you do the success will follow..
What should our readers know about your business?
Currently I am a realtor with Costello Real Estate and Investments. Starting my real estate career was not the easiest thing for me to do. I work full time in healthcare as a manager M-F, and began taking my classes on the weekends 8-5. My schedule was full, and I often found it hard to focus, but I knew I had other aspirations and this class was necessary for me to achieve them. I didn’t pass the class on the first attempt, and had to retake the entire class. though I passed the class the second time around, it still took me 3 times before I passed the licensing exam. This experience taught me that you succeed at what you focus on. Sometimes in order to get where we really want to be we have to put something on the back burner, to be able to focus on our other dreams. Temporary sacrifices for later success. If you are really following your passion you will find that it was worth it. Finally getting my license was one of my greatest accomplishments. I knew if I was willing to work as hard as I had to get my license, there was no way I was not going to work just as hard to succeed in my new business. This is what has encouraged me and kept me focused along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Charlotte has a ton to offer. Every day I drive around I see something new popping up. One of my favorite new places is Optimist Hall in Noda. It has all different types of food vendors, bars, and really nice seating for you to be able to work and/or just hang out with your friends. The Dumpling Lady is by far my obsession. If I want great food and drinks a couple of my favorite places are Stir and Soul Gastrolounge. Both places have a really nice atmosphere, and the food and drinks are always perfect. The South End area has become one of my favorite places in the city. It’s grown so much, and as a realtor it’s a prime location for any of my clients looking for the “it” spot to live.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success thus far in life is due in large part to a collective group of people in my life. To start, my parents have always motivated me by simply believing that I could achieve anything. My siblings, and friends that have become more like family, have always been my support system, and my encouragement and for that I am forever grateful!
