We had the good fortune of connecting with Janine Wiggins, CFCC, CFJST and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janine, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is, “You have to work hard to be successful.” In my opinion, working hard leads to burnout. I believe that you should work efficiently and consistently to be successful. When you work efficiently, you maximize your productivity and reduce wasted time. Efficiency allows you to complete more in less time. When you work consistently, your efforts compound over time, leading to long-lasting results and inevitable success. Personally, consistency has afforded me more success than working hard. For example, I show up consistently for my business which has brought me opportunities to network, gain clients, and share my knowledge.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Certified Federal Career Coach and Certified Federal Job Search Trainer. My business, Resumes By Neen, LLC, provides resume and coaching services for individuals transitioning from a private sector position into a government job. We also provide resume services for service members transitioning out of the military into a federal or civilian job. My business is set apart from other Resume Services because we specialize in federal government resume writing only. Initially, I began by crafting resumes for all positions; however, niching down allowed me to perfect my craft and stand out as a resume writing business. Imagine having a heart condition and going to a Podiatrist instead of a Cardiologist. Although the Podiatrist is a licensed physician, he does not know the heart’s ins and outs. He knows some things, but his specialty is feet. On the contrary, a Cardiologist specializes in matters of the heart and can address specific heart issues. Likewise, a federal resume writer like myself addresses federal job announcements, application processes, and best practices of federal resume writing.

I started my business as a side hustle, helping family and friends. As I progressed, I realized resume writing is a high-demand service. I decided to name my business Resumes By Neen because Neen is the nickname my friends and family call me. I want my clients to have a personable experience when they encounter my brand.

I am still building my business, and it is not easy. As a full-time employee, at the moment, and a business owner, I manage working a day job and working my business in the evenings. I’m building my business from the ground up, and soon it will be my full-time venture. I’ve learned that building a business takes consistency, focus, and sacrifice. I experience time management challenges because I am only one person, but I am overcoming those challenges by gradually building a team and using time-blocking techniques. Building a business has taught me to remain focused and move at my own pace. I’ve learned that life is not a race.

I want the world to know that this may be the first time you hear about Resumes By Neen, but it will not be the last. My business is evolving daily. I’m passionate about clients landing federal employment, and I plan to change the world one federal resume at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you ever visit the Alabama Gulf Coast, you have to eat seafood. One of my favorite spots is Felix’s Fish Camp on the causeway. The food is amazing, and the view is spectacular because it is right off Mobile Bay. My favorite dish is the blackened fresh catch with a house salad and rice. If you’re more of a brunch person, Another Broken Egg in Fairhope is amazing. The beignets are delicious. Of course, with all my meals, I drink water… and mind my business, lol. As far as sightseeing, the beach is always beautiful and only 45 minutes away.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Byron. Thank you for believing in my dream, encouraging me not to give up, and allowing me entrepreneurial space in our marriage. I love you. I would also like to shout out my parents, Garry and Virginia Morrison. Thank you for introducing me to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without Christ, I would not be able to walk boldly in my purpose and calling. Thank you for raising me in a peaceful environment without childhood trauma. I’m blessed that God allowed me to be your daughter. My younger sisters, Jazmine and Jean Morrison, and my niece Jordyn also deserve a shoutout. They are extremely supportive and always lend a listening ear when I need to talk. I love our conversations, and I’m proud of the women they are.
