We had the good fortune of connecting with Janelle Dawsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
One of the main reason I decided to start my own practice is because I saw how business and tech leaders were getting into the therapy field. And while they do bring innovation to the world of therapy, I believe we, as therapists, should be the main leaders operating within our space. So I decided to learn more about business not only to help me, but also other therapists.

By setting up my own practice, I can ensure that the quality of care comes first. It’s all about giving clients the tools they need to build and maintain strong, healthy relationships. I noticed so many people struggling with their relationships and there’s this real sense of brokenness out there. Whether someone is just starting to date, trying to maintain a long-term relationship, or healing from a breakup, they all need support. I wanted to create a space where I could help people navigate these different phases of love in a healthier way.

I truly believe that when people manage their relationships better, it has a positive ripple effect on their overall well-being.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, 4 The Love Counseling & Consulting, is all about supporting people through every phase of their relationships—whether they’re single, dating, engaged, married, navigating a breakup or divorce, or even the loss of a partner/spouse. What sets us apart is that we focus not just on mental health in a broad sense but specifically on how love and relationships impact a person’s overall well-being. Relationships are such a core part of our lives, and I wanted to create a space where people could come to heal, grow, and find clarity no matter where they are in their journey.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how personalized our approach is. We’re not just treating symptoms or following a one-size-fits-all plan. We meet clients exactly where they are and work with them to create healthier patterns in their relationships and lives. I’m also really excited about building a brand that emphasizes love in all forms—not just romantic relationships but self-love, family dynamics, and community connections.

Getting to where I am today business-wise definitely wasn’t easy. When I first started, I had a lot of passion but not a lot of knowledge about running a business. There were moments of frustration and doubt, especially trying to balance being a therapist, an entrepreneur, and a mom at the same time.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that growth takes time. You can’t rush the process, whether it’s building a business or helping clients heal. Patience and consistency have been key for me. I’ve also learned to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and pivot rather than seeing them as setbacks.

What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that 4 The Love is more than just a business—it’s a mission. It’s about restoring faith in love and relationships, even in a world that often feels broken. We help people see that no matter where they are—whether they’re falling in love, struggling to stay in love, or figuring out how to move forward after love—they don’t have to do it alone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has a lot to offer and it seems like there’s something new being created every week. There’s so many restaurants to choose from that even I’m still exploring and I haven’t quite settled on a place that I would consider to be a favorite. In terms of things to do, I’d likely take them to Ponce City Market to check out the BeltLine. I actually recently checked out the Painted Park, which was cool. We’d probably visit Truist Park, not for the baseball games though, because I am not a sports kind of girly. I might even take them to visit Little Five Points or Howell Mill. And of course you can’t forget about the nightlife and day parties on the weekends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a big shout-out to Clive Morrison with CMJ Business Solutions. He’s been incredibly helpful in setting up my business and has coached me every step of the way. His guidance and support have been invaluable, and I genuinely appreciate all the wisdom he’s shared.
