We had the good fortune of connecting with Janay Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started J. Douglas Agency it was a rebrand. I a firm believer in the old adage that says keep throwing spaghetti to the wall until it sticks. And that’s where my entrepreneurial journey has taken me. I am gifted in many areas, certifications in many areas, but the one thing I could not negate is my love for helping people. I originally thought I would be assisting young women in becoming the best versions of themselves, yet found I loved bringing ideas to life more. Thus, I created the J. Douglas Agency. It is honor to my father who I share his initials and it is a collaborative agency helping to not only build ideas but people.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The J. Douglas Agency is an agency that drives our clients ideas from ideation to visualization. We know there are many business development agency and consultants, however we strive to not only grow our clients business but to also ensure our clients are growing as well. We are most proud and excited that we partner with some of the most amazing individuals to offer our clients a one stop shop for a growing business. Who knew that one would pivot during a pandemic, though not new to the business world yet this venture and concept was new to me. It was in a pandemic that we shifted from understanding needs to being a bridge to answers. Task not easy, but with divine connections it was an achievable task as we have seen in this first quarter. This venture has taught me that understanding your full potential is the greatest assist to have, but connection is even better. We often misuse ourselves when it comes to establishing business because we want to be everything in fear of having to pay someone. This lesson help me to understand barter and support. Our agency is a handoff process supporting other business owners while building with our clients. Its like the preferred vendors for your visualization project. If there was one thing I would want the world to know about me or my brand would be that isolation drowns ideas and growth, and we promote connection.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The bestie arrives in the city on Monday and it is up to me to ensure the best time, we would start first by lunch at Jinya on Roswell Rd in Atlanta, to quench any stomach cravings. Their Ramen bowls are delightful. Then we would head to Centennial Park for a Ferris wheel ride checking out views of the city and some shopping up near Perimeter Mall. I am one who enjoys good shopping so we may even head to the outlets. Then after the hustle and bustle of the day retreat to South City kitchen for dinner.
Tuesday would be all things tourist day; meaning we head to the Coca – Cola factory for a tour, check out the aquarium. After working up an appetite head over to Freds Meat and Bread on Krog street. Take a glimpse of Piedmont Park and people watch ending the evening at Taco’s and Tequila for margarita and tacos.
Wednesday would be all things nature and nature driven. Starting with going up Stone Mountain to hiking a trail at Amicalola Falls, while grabbing lunch near there. Dinner would be at one of my favorite place Two Urban Licks in Atlanta.
Thursday we prepare the weekend. It says nothing like rejuvenation by going to Jeju then lunch at Cafe Sunflower. After pampering, we would spend the day checking more tourist attractions like Martin Luther King tour, and oh yes the TRAP Museum.
Friday is all things party & drinking related. The night can range from Whiskey Mistress to Whiskey Blue. If The Headliner Band (@theheadlinerbandatl) then I am there. It would definitely be a long night and morning while visiting my after hours spot called Babylon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Support and mentorship is how I thrive, so I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t shout out my family first, all my mentors who pushed me when I didn’t understand and to my friends who thought no robbery to listen to all my ideas. But also to a book that impacted my life “Atomic Habits” by James Clear
