We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamil Codner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamil, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I got the idea to start MAD Travel after a trip to Dubai in 2015. At that time my brothers and I were taking annual trips to new countries around the world but I noticed a lot of my friends weren’t. As the son of Jamaican immigrants, I’ve been traveling internationally since I was an infant, something I encouraged my peers to do. I realized at that time Instagram was one of the best ways to show them better than I could tell them. MAD Travel was started to inspire millennials and Gen-Z to get out and see the world more, gain new experiences, and get out of our comfort zones.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of the people I have been able to meet, the large brands and companies we have partnered with, and the global impact our small team has been able to have. As a serial entrepreneur who has built other businesses, simultaneously one of my biggest challenges has been time management. Running MAD Travel, Co-founding Fresh Heritage, and leading a consulting agency as well as being heavily involved in two nonprofits didn’t leave a lot of space for wasted time. Having people around you who are able to deliver results, think independently, and all work toward one goal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a week to give someone a tour of the city I’d definitely hit a few key landmarks, we definitely have to visit the Beltline and the different restaurants and bars. Ponce City Market or a few of the rooftop bars popping up all over the city. We would have to check out some of the legendary nightlife venues. For a little more adventure, I’d want to hit the Porsche Experience, iFly Indoor Skydiving, or the Georgia Aquarium for their swim with gentle giants activity, or if we’re feeling more adventurous go for a dive in the shark cage. But we’d have to wrap up the week in Atlanta by heading to Hartsfield Jackson Airport the world’s busiest airport and take advantage of the access to visiting a new destination anywhere in the world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to my parents, brothers, and family for all their support, encouragement, and belief in me even when I was still trying to figure things out.
