We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Senat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, how do you think about risk?
Embracing risks is a vital path to personal growth, especially when they are calculated.

I can proudly say taking that risk played a pivotal role in my journey of growth and self-discovery within my career. When I brought my creative vision to life by writing, directing, and producing my first horror short film BRAIN DEAD, I proved that limited resources couldn’t hinder my determination. Instead, I assembled a talented team to help bring my vision to life. This step allowed me to manifest my idea into a film, and I appreciate the lessons and experiences it brought along the way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Whether it’s my acting or writing that’s getting recognized, what sets it apart is that it’s uniquely me, reflecting my background, vision, and the bigger picture. My work is in service to the audience, aiming to make a meaningful connection and serve a purpose, paving the way for individuals like myself or providing a form of therapy for those seeking solace from the challenges of life, wanting to decompress by watching a film.

I’m excited to see how the audience receives BRAIN DEAD; I know the messages I focused on while creating this film, but I’m also interested in seeing how different audiences respond to it. Staying consistent is how my path got more clear to me. It’s definitely not easy, but having a solid plan kept me going. I learned a long time ago that utilizing a calendar is a great tool for organization. You can’t have any motion if there’s no structure set in place.

What I want the world to know about my story is that I didn’t wait for my agent to call and tell me I booked a role. I created opportunities for myself by producing my own work, paving a lane for stories I want to bring to life. Don’t wait for opportunities to come around – go and green light yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve got to bring them to Roc South Cuisine for some soul food it’s only right. Fried chicken smothered in candied yams, with mac and cheese on the side. This is my go to meal, and it’s a black-owned business. Another spot is Rock Steady for some good Caribbean food and drinks. Lastly, for more drinks, will go to James Room right off the beltline.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my cousin Steven. He’s been a mentor and a brother to me. I remember when I first ventured into acting.. I was very green. He helped me with my auditions and this was a time when I didn’t even have any self-tape equipment so he would try to hold it in frame or make a makeshift tripod. Those auditions were so bad – talk about growth. Shoutout to my cousin Stu for being patient and on a serious note for mentoring me in life and believing in me.
