We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamesia Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamesia, how does your business help the community?
Kemunity Yoga is a Holistic Health Company on a mission to spread awareness about health disparities that are plaguing Black and Underserved Communities at a local, national, and international level. Kemunity Yoga takes a unique approach to address health issues by incorporating Kemetic Yoga (Ancient Egyptian Yoga) and Ancient Holistic Health Techniques that were once practiced in Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Egyptians lived by the precept, “Know Thyself” at all times, which in turn, allowed them to build pyramids that are still standing to this day. Kemunity Yoga believes that with the wisdom of our Ancient Egyptian Ancestors, we are able to experience optimal health and increase our quality of life. While the world is currently in a pandemic that will go down in history, Kemunity Yoga’s current initiative is to address the mental, physical, and spiritual pandemic in Black and Underserved Communities as the time for restoration of harmony is here in the now.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What makes Kemunity Yoga different from others is that we provide ancient holistic solutions to issues pertaining to health, healing, and harmony from a chakra (energetic) perspective. We educate and spread the awareness that the true meaning of a healthy person consists of the health of one’s mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health; as you cannot have one without the other. In the Western society, the spiritual and energetic aspect is often left out as a determining factor of the state of health of a person.

In Ancient Egypt, the Kemites used the chakra system which is an intricate metaphysical system that can not only determine the health of a person, but determine how well one’s endocrine system is functioning, and the level of consciousness of a person on their journey towards enlightenment.

So what are chakras you ask? We have 7 main chakras also known as our energy centers that make up our life force and that connects us to everything in the universe. If you ever heard of the saying, “As above, so below, as within, so without” then this saying can be applied to our chakras; which essentially means, what happens in the astrological world, happens in this physical plane, and what we deal with in our internal world, manifests in our external environment.

One way the Ancient Kemites made sure that their chakras were always in alignment was by practicing yoga. That’s right! Practicing yoga is more than a system that can help you destress; however, a system that allows you to bring your chakras (energy centers) into alignment in order to create harmony in your internal and external world. In other words, it’s an energy healing practice that can bring more than peace into your life.

What I am most proud of is the completion of my recent fast. I completed my longest fast of 62 days on December 31st and broke my fast at the top of the year on January 1st, 2022. I am so proud of myself for stretching and challenging myself to abstain from food for 62 days. My goal was not only to prove to myself that I can fast for that long, but to experience another level of discipline I’ve never experienced before, and to kill off the old version of myself that was keeping me from stepping into my greatness in order to expand my company. I’ve been on a fasting journey for almost the entire duration of the pandemic which would happen approximately every 3 months. I started my fasting journey in June of 2020 and experienced a powerful spiritual awakening that led me to quit my corporate job and pursue my dreams and purpose. Since then, I’ve experienced many ups and downs on my entrepreneurial journey. It wasn’t until I went on my longest fast of 62 days that I experienced my greatest transformation in my life, which led me to discover the missing link that’s keeping us from living the life we truly want to live for ourselves.

How I got to where I am today business-wise was falling forward, surrounding myself around like minded individuals on the same journey of entrepreneurship, investing in coaches, making mistakes, experiencing many challenges and setbacks, starting over several times, receiving emotional support from loved ones, trusting the process, network marketing, social media marketing, word of mouth marketing, taking the time to always learn something new, documenting every experience on my journey, keeping my “why” in the forefront, holding my vision, believing in myself, staying curious, and learning how to master my thoughts and emotions.

The journey of entrepreneur is not easy. I overcame my challenges by learning how to quiet my inner-critic via daily mindset work, becoming solution oriented, taking radical action, leaning on my support system to uplift me during challenging times, listening to great music and dancing, relinquishing control of all outcomes, practicing detachment, trusting the signs of the universe, letting my ancestors guide me on this journey, cultivating the art of moving from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm, and allowing my self-belief to be greater than my fears.

The lessons I’ve learned along my journey of entrepreneurship is that you are blessed more than you realize, abundance and opportunities are all around you, you just have to be in the right state of mind to see them, the past, present, and future are all happening at once, ALWAYS be grateful for where you are on your journey and what you have, remember to have fun, take breaks, celebrate EVERY win (small/big), cherish the people who pour into you just as much as you pour into them, you cannot do this journey alone, life is happening for you and not to you, there’s no such thing as failure, only feedback in business, love yourself first at ALL times, everything is not supposed to make sense, miracles can happen to you and they can happen more than once, create boundaries with everyone, including yourself, and the right people and opportunities will always come at the right time whenever you’re ready to receive them.

What I want people to know about my journey and story is that my desire to break generational curses, expand the consciousness of this world, and be of service to my community and underserved communities is greater than any challenge or adversity I will come across in this lifetime. I am resilient, I am determined, and I am destined to make a difference in this world in the most unique aquarian way possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my Best Friend were to visit me in Atlanta, I would take her to my favorite vegan restaurants around the city since she volunteered to be vegan for the entire week. Depending on what my BFF is in the mood for, I could take her to get a juicy burger from Slutty Vegan off of Edgewood or a juicy vegan cheesesteak from Bar Vegan at Ponce City Market, where she will have a fun and lively experience, or I can introduce her to the raw vegan world by taking her to get a refreshing kale wrap from Tassili’s Raw Reality on the West End or experience delicious raw vegan nachos at Lovin’ It Live In East Point. If she isn’t in the mood for the raw vegan life, an alternative would be to grab a box of Hawaiian Pizza from Plant Based Pizzeria in Sandy Springs, or enjoy the pleasant breeze with outdoor seating at Cafe Sunflower; if that’s not the vibe she’s on, then we can indulge in authentic vegan Asian cuisine at Green Sprout. Even if my BFF would rather experience my delicious vegan home cooking at my spot for the week, I would then take her to experience a nice southern vegan breakfast such as Atlanta’s Vegan Breakfast in Roswell, or Go Vegan Grill in Decatur. When it comes to the vegan food experience in Atlanta, the options are endless.

As far as fun in the city, I could take my Best Friend to the Battery where the Braves stadium is located and enjoy a good time at Punch Bowl Social or experience some live action at Atlantic Station in Midtown. We can go to Ponce City Market and experience the many markets or the skyline park later in the week if she’s up to it. If the bestie is feeling a low-key vibe, then I would take her to the High Museum in the city, ride bikes on the beltline, visit the Trap Museum since she thinks she’s about that trap life (joke), climb the mountain at Stone Mountain Park. relax at Je Ju’s 24hr spa, share a hearty laugh at the Atl Comedy Jam show, or take her to experience her first drive-in movie at Starlight Drive-In Theater. Either eating yummy vegan cuisine or creating new fun experiences throughout the city, my best friend will never have a dull moment when visiting me in Atlanta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout-out to my late cousin (brother) John David Alford II for inspiring me to lead with my heart and be of service to others in such a way that will leave an impact in their lives forever. My promise is to pick up where you left off and keep your legacy and your spirit alive. I love you, John.

Always & Forever,

-Meek
