We had the good fortune of connecting with James Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up is not an option for me. Since I was a young boy I have witnessed my mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and others in my family find the strength to keep fighting. To keep going. I was born into survival and handed the weapon of perseverance at an early age. I don’t know how to give up. Even in the times where I want to give up there is this driving force on the inside of me that just won’t let me quit. I was born and raised in the church and there is a scripture that says when I desire to do good evil is always present. I have learned that evil is going to always be present, but you can still do good. It’s your choice. It’s your move! The opportunity to give up will always present itself, but we have to be determined to keep fighting. We have to have the audacity to keep going!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a dad before anything else. Not a super dad. Just a regular man who believes in taking care of his kids and making sure that they are better than I ever was. Then I am an author. I have had the privilege of writing an autobiography titled “It Had to Happen, but it couldn’t kill me. It tried, but fail. Life happens and sometimes we are caught off guard. Okay. Let’s see. I am a mentor. I am the CEO of a mentoring program for young men “Just Be You”. There are so many pressures in todays society to be what social media depicts, but it’s important in this season to be just who you are. Who you were destined to be before you were even formed in your mothers womb. Just Be You and the best you that you can be!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost God my father, Jesus my Savior and the Holy Spirit who keeps me from doing the dumb stuff I would do in and of my own strength. To the memory of my real life SUPERMAN. My earthly father James C. Williams who I miss everyday. I pray that I am making you proud dad. My Mom and Pops who still keep me grounded at 45 years old. Than to my sons, my princes. These jokers actually saved my life – LITERALLY! There have been so many times that I wanted to give up but realizing that they were looking up to and at me depending on me. They think they need me, but don’t realize I probably need them more! So yeah! My parents and my sons are my WHO and my WHY.
