We had the good fortune of connecting with James Ansah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My mentality around risk is that no risk, no reward. In society today I feel like people put a negative view behind risk but I really feel that risk builds character! Positive calculated risk that is.

We are constantly taking risks on a daily we sometimes are not conscious of like getting in a car and driving and hopping on a plane to travel.

When it comes to risks that make huge differences, like starting a business or investing in ourselves we tend to be hesitant because we dont know the full outcome. This was me for years scared to start the business, scared to express my true self and tell my story in fear of judgement.

The crazy thing is that risk is all an illusion and can be covered by the fear of the unknown. What may be a big risk to me could be a cake walk for the next person.

Understanding this concept helped me step out of my comfort zone and take action in starting my business and telling my story, which is how I came from being a skinny shy kid who lacked confidence in myself; fell to vices that almost took my life and struggled with anxiety and depression. Now I live with confidence and move with purpose, as i’ve built a lean muscular body and help other Kings do the same!

“Risk” has been my greatest reward and investing in myself by getting a mentor and putting myself on the line by becoming an Entrepreneur has been the most fulfilling result of taking risks.

God has always been the center of my life and has helped give me the courage to accomplish any achievement ive ever accomplished and I would be nothing without him.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me and my brand apart from others is my story. My business derived from my failures and how I was able to overcome and I only look to help other achieve what I use to think was impossible.

It all started with my childhood, being bullied as a kid is emotionally scarring and affected my self confidence and self worth. I always viewed my self as less than to others and felt like I never deserved anything good in life.

This mindset was not easy to overcome and it took me years to. After I finally figured out how to overcome anxiety and depression and create a body I was proud of; I started to get a lot of people asking me how I did it. How i completely transformed myself. People who knew me back in the day were amazed. The crazy thing about life is that even some of my bullies are now my clients and I help them unpack their past traumas and build a body they can be proud of as well.

I always thought that I was on this journey alone and I’ve learned that it’s bigger than me. We have all been placed on this earth with a purpose and our goal is to live this purpose and inspire other to live in theirs, that I feel is true meaning.

I leave you with my favorite quote that changed my life

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Coming from a small town in south carolina, living in Atlanta has been a blessing and an adventure and if I had to take someone on a tour we would start with breakfast at South city kitchen in midtown! They have the most amazing southern tasting food that gives you a real taste of the south, they even have real corn in their cornbread and is the best corn bread i’ve ever had.

Next we will be visiting the atlanta botanical gardens, the georgia aquarium, coca cola factory, along with a a stroll in piedmont park. We will also go up to lake lanier and relax.

As well as for the nights hang out at ponce city market and the battery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
