We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamaree Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamaree, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by a lot of things from the 90s. I know that the aesthetic from the 90s greatly influenced my creativity. VHS, Super 8’s, bars and tones, and even film scratches are my favorite textures I like to see in my work. It reminds me that sometimes my failures are not as bad and I don’t need to be the “perfect creative”. Many people love to see these things I’ve mentioned in my work because it brings them back to that ’90s era.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am excited about releasing all my unreleased work. I have been working with a lot of artists that I manifest working with years ago. Me being myself and being consistent got me where I am at today. The come-up was definitely not easy. I remember I was somewhat homeless for 2 months. I was sleeping in a basement moving from hotel to hotel and BnB to BnB just to keep my full-time job and continue my creative journey in Atlanta, GA. I prayed and just went out to create as if it was all I had because honestly, it was all I had in me at the time. That situation made me very sad and angry so I used that emotion to go harder and turn nothing into something. I have learned that your current situation, good or bad, isn’t always permanent. It was only there to make my story more inspiring to others who want to get in the same position as me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was back home, then I would take my best friend to my favorite restaurant Rosarito. As far as fun, maybe the Santa Monica Pier, beach or some amusement park. I’m still learning how to go out more for recreational purposes so I really don’t have a long list of places to go to eat, drink or hang out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God deserves all the recognition without a doubt. He blessed me with the resources and people to get me here. My family is always there no matter what I go through as a creative and I am grateful for that. Besides family, I want to thank Chris (@chrisclip) for being a mentor and putting me on to Cam Kirk Studios as a freshman at Morehouse. From there I met my creative Morehouse Brothers that worked at the studio, Oran (@primetime) and Steve (@stevefitz). Shoutout to the AUCCAM for having me as an intern on campus to meeting Marley (@shelovemystyle) and Kivenchy (@kivenchy) at Cam Kirk Studio for my first appointment there. Shoutout to Cam Kirk for allowing me to intern and work at his studio and shoot under him from time to time. Shoutout to my friends back at home who allowed me to film at our parties for Certified Husslers Ent. To my Morehouse brothers in the MyWay collective and PutThatThangOn collective, thank you for all of your support and for inspiring me to go get it. Shoutout to my brother Rich Trapper, Seddy Hendrinx, Capolow, JT the 4th, Generation Now, Masego, Sovereign Sounds, Kap G, TCL, and many known artists/labels that kept me busy and welcomed me towards bigger opportunities. Shoutout to my fans, I wouldn’t be here without me knowing I inspired you guys and for that, I have learned that creating for myself is equivalent to creating for you all.
