We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalen Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was annoyed at the fact that I was filling my vehicle with fuel to go to work and I know longer felt a reason or purpose to be employed there anymore. An I knew if starting my own business it would need to truly be something that I have always enjoyed doing and could ultimately be a luxury to others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Out of Spec Detailing emerged from a perfection passion that I have. I found out that detailing my own vehicles allowed me space and time that there was room for me in the automotive detailing market. Detailing is relaxing and stress free. I getting here was all that easy. I worked for big major companies with awesome salaries to at the end of the day feel a void. So I asked myself what is something that I could see myself doing day in and day out, that others would see as a luxury, sustain and further my life. An Out of Spec Detailing emerged.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would begin by visiting Piedmont park and walking the belt line, of course there’s multiple restaurants along the belt line so perfect place to grab a bite to eat and drink. Dinner would be at a variety of restaurants to include, southern gentleman, 5church, sugar factory, K-pop. For as places to visit, definitely would plan a trip to visit chateau elan, six flags, world of coke. An the list just goes on and on.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout a very big supporter and influencer of mine. His name is Taye Rashod, owner and founder of Styled by Taye Rashod. He has such a great business model and is a wonderful mentor.
