We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalen Loney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was some many mixed emotions about it. One day I wanted to do it the next day I was nervous. Next day I wanted to quit. But after realizing that company’s, mangers, supervisor etc don’t really care about you they really just want a paycheck i knew that being my own boss was the way to go. God bless me with a opportunity & I took it
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Comprendre is the name of my brand. It means the understanding of the misunderstood. Like most creative & talent individuals I am very misunderstood, and I knew I wanted my brand to have to story & meaning behind it. I wanted it to represent people who are themselves & don’t try to dim themselves down to make others feel comfortable. What sets my brand apart is that it will make a close mind open up & thinking about things differently. If i have a hoodie on that says “RICH MEN ONLY” of course your going to think “money”, but in reality rich can be anything. You can be rich in energy, love, communication, spirituality, confidence etc. That’s what i love so much about my brand is the word play. It makes you think about who you want in your life & also they type of person you have to be in order to attract what you want. The road to starting this was long. It took over a year. I felt as if i was working on an album. Every week something was changing or need to be added on. I was had on with everything from colors, to fonts, to how i wanted to market it. A lot of going to bed at 6am & running off four hours of sleep at someone else job.Overcoming a lot of fear & lack of self confidence is the main factors. I had so many negative thoughts about myself that it would stop me from doing things i wanted to do. So I just got the courage & ran with it . The lesson i learned was that we have to give ourselves chances. Chances to grow, chances to make mistakes, chances to win, chances to be uncomfortable. If you don’t give yourself a chance who will. After that everything will come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is just a good time all around. To eat I most definitely would take them to Taste Spoon. Love them!! Next we would go to my favorite gym because health is wealth . Effect Fitness & do a bootcamp class. To hang out I would most likely do New Black Wall Street Atlanta. In my views any Black owner business in Atlanta is a experience that you should check out!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout-out to my friend Brandy Richandson for blessing me with this opportunity. She’s an amazing person, always keeps me laughing & gives me some many ways to become better mentally. To my amazing production manger Avril that will make anything come to life i truly appreciate you! To all my family & friends that always show love & support. To my father thank you so much for showing me the prime example of what being yourself looks like. Continue to watch over me from heaven. Most importantly God deserve all the credit & recognition!
