We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalaura Huff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalaura, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Throughout my business career I’ve learned so many lessons whether it was good or bad. However, the most important lesson was to pace myself and learn patience. Often times I felt like I have to do everything at once in order to be successful; but only to realize that I was putting constant pressure on myself that resulted in me feeling overwhelmed. Learning to not rush into things and slow down has helped me a lot with my business journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of my creation of my candles and the different scents/names that I offer. My candle names gives a message that is tied to a particular scent. For example, one of my candles is called “Girl Let It Go” with a scent of lavender and vanilla. Lavender can help anxiety, stress, headaches, depression, etc. When you are lighting the “Girl Let It Go” candle it is giving you a reminder to let go of what’s keeping you from pressing forward.

Where I am today professionally has not been an easy road. Often times I would get discouraged and want to throw in the towel but I kept going. I overcame the challenges but taking breaks to regroup and get my mind right. It’s not easy working under stress or pressure. Sometimes you have to take that break to refocus so when you come back you’ll be better than ever.

Some lessons I learned along the way is that you cannot succeed without failing and you are never done learning. I would like the world to know that ROSIE LLC isn’t just a business it’s a self-care lifestyle and we have to get back in tune with taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my view, I would take them to eat at and drink at “Mastros”, “Eddie V’s”, and “Del Friscos”. Also, I would take them to visit the national harbor and Georgetown waterfront. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give credit and recognition to Jaya Bolden, my mentor. Jaya is a beautiful person inside and out and consistently gives me motivation to keep pressing forward. Jaya has an uplifting spirit that is destined to help others grow personally and professionally. I appreciate her for all of her support and encouraging words.
