We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by individuals that have harnessed that child-like / whimsical spirit in many of their creative endeavors. Legendary icons like Robin Williams that left a lasting impression on many of our lives (as is sadly no longer here), and fellow short-form video creators like my friend Rob Johnston (@robontherun on Instagram). Seeing the reactions from followers that not just enjoy, but have declared that they NEED entertainment that cheers them up and/or helps them escape whatever stress or difficult season they’ve been dealing with…. that, too, is so massively inspiring to KEEP CREATING.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an “influencer” / freelance creator, and I make content on a weekly basis for various social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook being the ones I focus on the most). I believe that my genuine joy for life and for bringing that same spirit to others sets me apart, and striving to just be myself rather than falling prey to trends or fitting into a certain mold. It’s been a constant process since I took all of this more seriously (beyond just making dumb videos in my room during college)… but I’d like to think I’ve succeeded in staying true to myself. I can’t worry about whether or not my brand of chaotic/cartoonish humor + content is for everyone, because you truly cannot please everybody.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For starters, it’s going to be a spanning-the-greater-Atlanta-area type of experience! If we’re grabbing food nearby where I reside… it’s gotta be Partner’s Pizza, Four 41 South, or Ipp’s. If we’re heading into Atlanta, I’m leaning towards Grindhouse Killer Burgers or Amore è Amore. I’m also a huge geek for the fact that so many of my favorite shows and movies are filmed in the area… so it would be a major missed opportunity to not go check out some of the locations used in Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and numerous Marvel Studios films. The Battery is also a top favorite location, no matter the season… but if it’s BRAVES SEASON we’re gonna go catch a game, enjoy some H&F Burger or Fox Bros BBQ (at Terrapin Taproom), and try to grab a pic with the best mascot in existence…. ALL HAIL BLOOPER. I’m also a big fan of Silverspot Cinema, which is nearby Truist Park… but I’ve been meaning to catch a classic movie at the Plaza Theater, so this would be a superb excuse to finally go. Honorable mentions for the Georgia Aquarium (never a disappointing experience), and hitting up a concert at ANY of the top tier venues in the city…. specifically the Roxy, the Masquerade, and The Tabernacle.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my wife Bethany & our two boys (who constantly encourage and/or endure my chaotic existence & cartoonish behavior while creating videos). They’re my biggest source of motivation & desire to do what I do!
