We had the good fortune of connecting with Jai Musiq and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jai Musiq, what matters most to you?
Love is the thing that matters most to me, in all aspects. The love you have for your family and friends, the love you have for a partner, and the love you show towards people you may not even know. Love is the highest frequency in my opinion. If you move with love, love will come back to you. I honestly believe that we all have a similar purpose in life, and that is to show love to ourselves and others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to my art, I take pride in being relatable to my listeners. The biggest compliment that I have received about my music is that it has saved someone’s life, and it was at that moment that I realized the power I have as an artist to positively impact whoever decides to listen. I think what sets me apart is that realization. I’m from Memphis, TN. When you hear that city, musically you probably automatically think about Moneybagg Yo, Key Glock, Pooh Shiesty, and others. I’m proud to say that I don’t sound like either of them. Being from here, all we’ve seen is trap influences, even back to those like Three 6 Mafia and Playa Fly. Despite that, I still continue to be versatile in my music, with everything from the vibe I provide to the subject matter. While Memphis music is currently trap influenced, there are still a lot of us who don’t live that lifestyle. My goal has been to provide the soundtrack to those to are living a lifestyle that’s different. It definitely has not been easy, but I feel as if I’m making progress every single day. I work hard to be so good that even if my music doesn’t fit the mainstream vibe, I still can’t be denied.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I can’t even lie; I don’t really go out much. However, I do have a few spots to check out. I’d definitely tap in with Crumpy’s because in my mind they have the best wings in the city, and if they have the best wings in the city, the have the best wings in the country because there aren’t many cities that can compete with Memphis wings. If you’re looking for a nice place to kick it in the evening, I would recommend Railgarten or the Rec Room. Railgarten has a nice outside vibe with multiple bars, games, a beach volleyball court, and great food. Rec Room has a similar setting, but it’s inside and full of arcade games and consoles. If you’re looking for a club turn up, my friends have you covered. My guys That Boy Cortez, DJ 2Keys, and DJ Smoove have the city lit every Thursday at The Menu, a venue with great drinks and great food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a couple of shoutouts actually. First and foremost, shoutout to God for blessing me with my talents and giving me new opportunities to grow everyday. Secondly, I’d like to shoutout my mom. She has been my rock since the day I came into this world. Her strength and resiliency are things that I have seen and implemented into my own life and career. Lastly, I’d like to shoutout my girlfriend, Woo. I know that dating an artist isn’t easy, but I’m grateful for the love and patience you give me daily. You motivate in me in multiple ways, and I can’t wait until we reach the top together.
