We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada “The Nail Boss” Shoemaker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jada “The Nail Boss”, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic/creative career because I believe that this field of work allows me to be my authentic self. I enjoy providing a space where people can come to relax. I take pride in my craft and enjoy challenging myself by pushing my boundaries of nail artistry as new trends and techniques continue to develop.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a nail artist, my art is expressed through nails. My work sets me apart due to my passion for being creative and encouraging. I love to have the ability to help my clients express their individuality through nails. I have always been complimented on how meticulous I am and my ability to create unique personalized nail designs. I am so proud to be able to create a space for individuals to come and relax then leave confident and recharged!
My journey has not always been the smoothest. From a one semester college student fresh out of high school to a nail technician, my interest in nails was not commonly seen or heard of to pursue as a career, but I always knew that I wanted to do something different and creative. This has left me at times to feel discouraged and asking myself if this was even a realistic career to have. To overcome these challenging doubts, I centered myself around people who are in the same or similar field that I am in and eventually found resources to help perfect my craft (Instagram, Facebook Groups, YouTube University!!, etc.). I then learned that there are so many ways I can apply my skills and avenues of nail technology many people haven’t heard of which continues to motivate me!
This journey I am on in my career is endless! What I would like the world to know about my story is that once I found something I was good at, I STUCK WITH IT! I kept FAITH that I would get better and I did not allow discouragement to deter me from pursuing what truly made me happy. I just kept pressing forward and decided to be a BOSS with what I WANTED OUT OF LIFE! Consistency is a MUST! I am excited to see how the nail, spa, and beauty industry continues to evolve, and I look forward to continuing to be a part of its growth and transformation!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
An ideal itinerary for a best friend visiting would be to first have breakfast at First Watch, Flying Biscuit Cafe, or Barney’s. I love breakfast food & these are my top picks! Next, we would go visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden to take a stroll and see some beautiful art and just explore the garden and catch up on life. Lunch would be at Ponce City Market with a little bit of shopping with local businesses, which is the best way to go because you definitely will come across unique pieces. Next, we would go and explore the Beltline and eventually be at Krog Street Market for some diverse selection of foods to eat and drink for dinner and just enjoy the scenery. Some more interesting places I would recommend everyone to visit are Truist Park and Atlantic Station. There are always fun events happening that I’m sure anybody would enjoy!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to personally shoutout my nail instructor, Ms. E’van, who has poured into me during the early stages of my nail technology career. My family and friends who have encouraged me in times of discouragement. Clients who have given me the opportunity to service them when I was just a beginner and most importantly, those who are currently supporting me and constantly showing me love. Lastly, those who are professionals in the nail, spa, and beauty industry, you ALL are my constant inspiration!
