Meet Jada Porter | Custodian and a model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jada, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursue my modeling career because I truly just enjoy it. It makes me happy. When I first got into it, I was insecure and didn’t really like anything about myself, so I got out my comfort zone and decided to go out and take pictures. Since then, my confidence boosted from there. I also love to connect and get to know more amazing artistic people. It’s just nice to know you aren’t the only one who has a passion for something that can bring light and beauty to peoples lives and the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work overnight as a custodian at a university and when I can, I do model for myself to build my Profolio and also for others whoever needs a model for a fashion show or a photoshoot. I just want to put out that do not get paid for modeling. I do it on my own free will because it just makes me happy and I feel like it’s just part of my character as a person. To be honest I don’t care if I get paid or not. If I ever do though, that would only be a plus haha, but it’s not my priority because I’m not doing it for money. I model for my own happiness but also to help people and inspire people that they are beautiful and can have the confidence to do whatever they want. Being a black woman is hard as it is when it comes to beauty standards especially in society and modeling world. I feel like it’s time to bend or break the standard and show the world beauty comes in many unique forms. That is where my passion really comes from and that’s how you know how much I love doing this.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well there is this wonderful place called Cobra which is a Korean bbq place I love to go it’s also a lounge and a bar and karaoke place who doesn’t love karaoke. It’s a little pricey but worth it. Or to the point in downtown to just walk enjoy the weather have a little picnic maybe. I am kind of a laid back kind of person. But I do like to have fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
