We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquice Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquice, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One thing about the beauty industry that people outside of the industry are probably unaware of is the calculation behind every step that is taken in the process of getting to the finished look. There is a science behind the artistry and a certain finesse that not everyone possesses. Subtle details really add to the overall look and while the client may not realize, that small hint of highlight on the inner corner of their eye could potentially make a world of difference in the end. Every step is mapped out so perfectly and to me, the initial planning or consultation is the most important part of anything you do — it is the blueprint for what you intend to accomplish.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Blueprint Beauty LLC has really become my life. I work a full time job unrelated to cosmetology but still find myself distracted by ways to improve my own business, my technique, and my overall professionalism in the beauty industry. It has not been easy because I sometimes feel inadequate when comparing myself to others in the industry but just have to always remind myself that what’s for me will always be for me. I’m most proud of my tenacity because there have been so many times where I felt like my efforts were for nothing and then – BOOM! I get a client or I get booked for a wedding and I’m reminded of why I’m here doing what I’m doing. It’s all about planning and making calculated risk that eventually will pay off.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m so much of a homebody I don’t even know where to go when someone asks for good spots. I’m usually the one getting chauffeured around town and seeing new places and experiencing new things!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my sisters for pushing me to even go to cosmetology school and take hair and makeup more seriously. I also have to thank Ms. Veronica Wise and Ms. Latisha Shorter for being two guiding forces in my education at Paul Mitchell.
