Meet Jacob Davidson | It Technician, Artist and Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Davidson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, how do you think about risk?
These questions are some tough ones, haha. I guess personally, risk comes with the territory of trying something new and with that the failing or succeeding that comes with that.
There can be a million ways to describe or relate to the risk in my life and career’s or hobbies, diving headfirst into the world of art when i learned to tattoo from a great friend and mentor Chad Jones who had tattooed me very heavily before even considering something like putting mostly permanent art onto someone.
OR like doing farmers markets after learning and struggling to bake bread for years and finding a way that worked around my normal day job schedule to bake 5 days a week to sell it on a Saturday morning without knowing if anyone would even buy it.
Now I have been diving into learning Ceramics/Pottery, I am no production maker but really enjoy exploring the form and making utilitarian kitchen ware from butter dishes to teapots and anything in between that someone can use daily and appreciate that someone created it with passionate love and care.
But taking any risks and putting yourself in through tough situations is where you learn and grow to find that spot in life or the career you might want to pursue.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am not a full time artist at all but spending any spare time I can find on some creative process or pushing my personal health farther so that i may continue creating and exploring the world for the rest of my life is the dream.
Of course nothing is notably easy in the creative industry there are millions who want to be the next big thing or the next famous influencer. I just want to make art or pottery that is fun and beautiful that everyone can enjoy.
I have learned mostly that having a community that pushes you to be better and a mindset dedicated to what you want will take you further than you think with hard work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depends what City, So in Atlanta since I love food, we would have to go to Zyka the taste of Indian in Decatur, best around hands down. Also the Dekalb Farmers market just because if you have not been it is an experience in its own but also some of the best fresh fruit and baked goods around as well.
Clairmont lounge/ Hotel for an interesting time before heading over to, Cafe Intermezzo is a must for a drink and desert pairing if you are into that type of thing.
Otherwise any park in or the Bamboo forest on the Palisades trail and hike around North Georgia for a Sunrise if you can!
Athens, I have been trying to explore more recently since that is where I am learning Ceramics/Pottery.
Earth Fare Market is amazing and has some killer hot lunch.
But as a baker, Independent Baking Co on Lumpkin street and Jittery Joes next door or the one in Watkinsville are my Go To spots around the area so far.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, Family and Friends are the best people you can have around when there is good and bad times, yet there is not one single person to choose but if you know me personally or not, I believe we meet every person in life for some reason or another even if it is as simple as “hello”.
A few People who helped the things I enjoy.
Chad Jones for teaching me the art of tattooing and making me push paste what I thought i could do in art.
Ceramics/Pottery: Spencer Kyle Jones and Rob Sutherland for being amazing teachers and critics.
Baking I would say came from my mom buying bread at Panera and I wanted to make better bread without all the additives.
Work Ethic: My Dad who worked as hard as he could day and night for years to provide a life for his family.
