We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclyn Allyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaclyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It started from how my mother used to be a hairstylist and I feel like I got my gift from her so I just wanted to live on her legacy in my own way. But also helping others feel better about themselves through their hair.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently I am a college student attending the illustrious Clark Atlanta University, studying business administration with a concentration in marketing. Attending the university gives me a lot of opportunities to learn and network with lots of professionals and entrepreneurs. it really gives me a lot of insight on where I want to be in my future. My work starts from when I was the age of 13 and my mom had passed away. she was my hairstylist and I never was used to paying for my own hair so what I decided to do was look up a couple YouTube videos and teach myself how to braid. And that’s where it’s all started. It took a lot of practice, hard work, visualization and studying lots of different videos. doing hair was really more as a passion of mine so it didn’t feel like a challenge. It felt more like I was just getting better at what I love doing. one of the biggest lessons doing Hair has taught me is learning how to trust the process. what I want the world to know about my brand is that I try to help people become more confident in themselves from their hair. There are lots of different ways we can feel good about ourselves, but for the ones that feel most confident from their hair, I would love to help contribute to that. It’s all about self-love and I want to be able to spread that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area first, I’d start off with a good breakfast spot downtown Atlanta, then do something therapeutic through art, for example, paint rooms or even tufting. there are lots of good places to eat for example, the 24 hour diner downtown, JR crickets, busy bee, Mr. everything café and the list goes on. There is also this new pho place called who wanna pho and they have really good Vietnamese food. Then towards the end of the day, I would show them Atlanta nightlife. for example, going to a club and having a good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my friends who always trust and give me the opportunity to try hairstyles on them. I feel like I only get better with practice and my friends played a huge role in that. Also, Mariam’s African Braiding in Lawernceville, Georgia for giving me the opportunity to work with them and learn more.
