We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Moffet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I was a teenager in high school, I made the very risky decision to pursue a career in filmmaking, and I’ve been chasing that dream ever since. I can’t imagine doing anything else. Filmmaking is fulfilling in almost every way I can think of, especially at the creative level. A few years ago, I decided to take my career to the next level by opening a film production company: Black Fox Productions. Having creative control over my projects has proven immensely satisfying. And if it turns a profit, then that’s just a bonus!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The road to my professional career today has been a long one. I’m not a filmmaker that started making movies with an 8mm camera when he was six years old. There was never an “aha!” moment that I suddenly decided filmmaking was my calling. It came after a long, deliberate thought process brought me to that conclusion. When I was a senior in high school, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in filmmaking. It made perfect sense: I loved writing and creativity, but I also enjoyed working with technology. Film was a perfect melding of the two disciplines. From there, I went to film school at the University of Georgia, and began working as an editor. I’ve failed in my career many times, but my need to create has always pushed me forward. If I could give anyone advice from the lessons I’ve learned over the years, it’s to not give up. Your hard work will pay off someday. Those trials and tribulations have been forged into Black Fox through years of trial and error, and I hope someone somewhere will learn from my mistakes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Piedmont Park would probably be the first place I would take them. There’s plenty of places to eat nearby, and it’s just a beautiful park in general. And there’s a pool! I would also take them to the many breweries in the city. Atlanta is full of fun places to go and eat and have a good time. And, of course, Six Flags. Because I love roller coasters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would give credit to my fiance’, Taylor Powers, for believing in my crazy dreams of becoming a filmmaker. She was always the one that said “don’t give up,” even when I thought all hope was lost. I wouldn’t have made it without her.
