We had the good fortune of connecting with J Weary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is the people who support/promote it. This brand is to feel as a community brand. I want people to really feel apart of something when they wear the product, i want people to know that they have a company that actually cares about the well being of communities across America.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I can’t tell you what sets me apart because I don’t compare myself to others, I just do my own thing. I am most excited about the philanthropic event that myself along with other wonderful creatives are planning for Atlanta. This event isn’t only going to give back but I hope it inspires and gives confidence too low income kids in the metro area in a major way. I got where I am due to a lot of heartbreak, risk and failures, thats how I was forced to believe in myself without approval or validation from peers. It’s never easy to lose people, money or hope but, what is worth going through this is to learn from those moments and understand to keep going, NO MATTER WHAT. I have overcome challenges by channeling everything I have into my craft. I would like the world to know that Buried N Kulture is a brand that embodies community and specifically showcases how black women matter. Currently I do a virtual showcase “Give Flowers” for female DJ`s across the country. I want us to show up and be there for each other mainly our own community and support our women while we are lock down.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best was visiting me I would definitely take them to these three places. Tasillis Raw Reality, which has the best vegan kale wraps in the city also locally grown and owned. Edgewood Pizza because the CULTURE and The Original Pancake House off Memorial Drive. Now if were going out lets check out a cool party that WERC Crew is spinning at or hit the Revery up if its a Wednesday we’re definitely going to check out Hip-Hop Trivia. Place to hang out in nature of course the belt line specifically Old Fourth Ward Park, Piedmont Park or Botanical Gardens.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the people that support me. Whomever it may be I am thankful that you are pushing me so that I can keep creating and being involved. I love you all equally and without you I would be nothing.
