Meet J.LeVar Bryan, Sr. | CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with J.LeVar Bryan, Sr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J.LeVar, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Over time, I have realized that there are too many factors that play a role in work-life balance. To create that balance, here are some questions to consider: — What does your family situation look like? — Do you have kids or not? — What does your support system look like? — How demanding is your job? Your business? — Where are you mentally and emotionally when it comes to valuing sleep? Me time? Time with friends and family? — Do you have a significant other’s schedule and time to consider? — What’s your definition of productivity vs being busy? There are many other thoughts to consider, but these are a few that come to mind. Once you’re able to realistically answer those questions, you can begin the process to make a plan for your work-life balance. I’ve also learned that this plan has to be extremely flexible for all the unknowns you will encounter. I had to make adjustments to my plan frequently to make it work. I do believe it’s obtainable, but we have to eliminate any preconceived notions that we might have picked up from a YouTube video or a friend, so we can craft what works for ourselves!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Dad’s List is a list of our values, goals and milestones as fathers in pursuit of creating our legacy. Through our online community and podcast, The Dad’s List focuses on telling stories. It doesn’t matter what type of dad you are, everyone has a story, and our stories impact people in different ways. My closest friends would say that I’m resilient. Life has definitely served me several ups and downs, but I’ve been determined to succeed. My trust in God has kept me. I know that I will achieve what I was designed to achieve. I have to stay focused on my purpose. I also have learned that I can’t compare myself to others. Not in my work ethic, my business choices, or my results. So, deciding to create my own path has been difficult and freeing at the same time. Fatherhood is everything to me. I learn something different from every dad I interview on The Dad’s List Podcast. I may be working on my other streams of income, but changing the narrative of how our society sees dads will always be important to me. I want to continue to empower men by allowing them to share their stories and experiences to help each other.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Nyoka Bryan has always believed in my dreams and has been a big supporter for many years. She understood my vision for a long time and adjusted with me when the plans had to change. She is the original believer and contributor to who I am today. Rasheed Philips of Philips Barbeque Co. has been an incredible accountability partner for years. He has pushed me while building his brand at the same time. He has invested his time, energy and money to help me succeed. Gail Johnson of Presently Blooming has been a great resource for support, recognition and TRUTH! Her ability to know me well enough so she can provide me feedback in the way she’ll know that I’ll receive it. She is not a yes woman and her honesty with me only allows me to trust her more and more each time we talk.
