We had the good fortune of connecting with Izzy Pinto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Izzy, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Guatemala Central America and raised in Washington DC. Growing up in a Hispanic family first generation to live in America really made an impact on my Comedy Career. It has truly helped me bring light to my culture and has helped me to reach understanding and respect for all other cultures.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One year ago I was rushed to emergency surgery in a life and death situation. I had been a very active dance fitness instructor and now had to face the task of sitting still for several months. I didn’t know how or what I was going to do as a creative outlet to pour all this energy that I had inside. I had done theater and improv years ago so I signed up some improv classes. They were so much fun and when I went to sign up for the next course it was sold out. But there were several spots open to take a stand up class. I thought reluctantly why not?
I fell in love with Stand Up and the rest is history. I’ve only been doing it for one year wich translates to one week in the comedy world!
It has been the hardest and most rewarding job I’ve ever done. The best part has been to actually get bookings for shows. It’s crazy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is the place to be and now all these little surrounding neighborhoods are becoming a vibe!!

I would take them to the home of Dr Martin Luther King it is a truly charming corner of the city and did you know it was a national park?

Piedmont Park is a must!!! So much to see inside from the waterfront to the little hidden doors that are all around the city.

Krog street tunnel to take photos ofcourse!

Cami Cakes for the best red velvet cupcakes.

Rhythma Studios for a West African dance class, Zumba or a heels or shuffling dance class!

An improv show at Dynamic el Dorado or Dad’s Garage.

A comedy show at the Laughing Skull lounge.

An evening on Edgewood ave Slutty Vegan and then Church bar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people and too many people to count that have truly been there to lift me up and offer encouragement. I have to give a big shout out to Crowded House comedy, Migel from Dynamic el Dorado and so many different comics that have truly been a form of support in what seems like a very solo passion at times.
