We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Seward and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaiah, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I think that’s a unique answer for everyone. A lot of times people allow others to decide that for them by deferring to other people’s opinion about their goal. But I’ve realized that what works for me is to check and see if what I’m doing is making me happy, and if not, whether to fix it requires a small change or a complete reset. Then check your progress. If you’re happy and progressing and aren’t hurting anyone else to do it, then keep going.
What should our readers know about your business?
Blue 82 Productions is a company I started with a small team. We recently collaborated with Samantha Simone Studios and created a festival award winning comedic short film called The Body of Christ and a new season of a series called 10 Minutes that’s coming soon. I think the people that are involved is the main reason things have gone so well. The right team can mean so much. I was a musician before acting so a lot of people asked me to compose music for films or do editing work. So just by learning skills life naturally connected me to the right people. We took a risk and started a business and it’s been a great decision.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so many places to go in NYC. Eating chicken and rice from the Halal Guys at 6th and 53rd has to happen. But as far as activities, there’s anything from going to one of the museums during the day to grabbing a drink at a place down the street. I’m part of a fight gym called CULTR so some boxing and jiu jitsu might be mixed in there. But life is so scheduled I like when there’s also some room for spontaneity.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s been so many people that deserve credit for helping me at just about every point in my life and career. I’d have to shoutout my close friends and family first. But as an actor I’d have to credit Gregory Jacobs and Steven Soderbergh for giving me my first SAG-AFTRA speaking role. They gave me an opportunity that has led to so many others. And if I can give one more it’ll be a shoutout to casting at New Amsterdam for giving me a chance, and also to the cast and crew that helped me on the tough days and made the good days even greater.
