We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Russell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaiah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of my brand comes from hard work and dedication. Things don’t come easy so you have to put in the work to make your dreams your reality. Even if something didn’t work out the first time, I’d push myself to try again until I succeeded. Dance has instilled these qualities in me and it’s one of the things I like most about it. There’s always a challenge so there’s always room for growth. Never settle until you’re happy and even then go a little harder.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of the connections I’ve made through dance and the work I’ve put out over the years. It’s such a rewarding experience to witness the growth of a student and watch them overcome challenges whether that be confidence, a new skill, etc. I’ve made lifelong friendships because of dance and have students look up to me which is an honor. Being able to see dance in a different light such as theatre or an after-school program has equipped me with many tools to succeed. Dance comes in many forms so I appreciate the knowledge I’ve gained over the years.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy being surrounded by nature because it’s a great escape from the world. We would start by sitting at a park or near a lake while enjoying the sunset. Coffee shops are a nice hangout spot to catch up and have some quality time . I am also a fan of pasta and like walking through art galleries so that would finish out the evening.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank Ms. Cathy Turner, my first dance teacher, for paving the way to my dance journey. She was a very positive and uplifting instructor with many creative ideas. If she had a storyline you would see it all come together with costumes down to the props. But most importantly she reminded her students why we chose to dance; to have fun. Whenever I’m teaching I always remind my students to have fun and enjoy the experience.
