Meet Innate | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Innate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Innate, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be trusting your gut and fighting for what you think is cool. My artist name alludes to the idea that everyone has something to say and a unique perspective. It is up to us to bring it to the table even if we are the only ones that understand it. I love creating.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Man, I’ve lived through a lot in my 6 years of being an artist. I started recording after working at Live Nation and seeing top-tier artists perform every night. I wasn’t from that world, there was no music or creatives in my family, but I fell in love with it all. I would head to events, shows, and recording sessions any free second I had. I was obsessed with it, and I wanted to get good. I would freestyle rap or sing in my car during the 45 minute drive to work every shift. My voice got stronger, my grasp of melody and rhyming, and my confidence too. I’ve never been afraid to put myself out there, and I went full force into a world that I wouldn’t know until I found out.
In 2020, I had personal issues that left me living out of my car. It was hell man. I ended up getting sober from alcohol and climbing back to music. I am 3 years sober now and I am so much better. I used to not have a story; today I have one I’m proud of.
The things I represent are: never-ending curiosity for the world, trusting my taste and style, resilience, and pushing boundaries when you can.
I love music and I can’t think about pursuing anything else. I want to be fearless and tell my story.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My weekends are usually spent “flyer-hopping” in Atlanta. I follow a good bit of local music pages and artists, so I try to show face at the things going on in the city. Spots that I like are Underground Atlanta, Smith’s Olde Bar, Our Bar (shoutout Larry), and Moondogs (this is the spot).
I love to follow the address on a flyer and check out new things. It doesn’t matter the music, I want to see the crowd and show. I want to see why that crowd loves that music and then decide if I like it too. I’m very spontaneous, and I want to see it all.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family, I love them. I lived a lot of different lives, and they have been there, even if it had been tense at times. They taught me to push and pursue the things I want. My dad has charisma that I learned from him, my mom is analytical and taught me how to question everything and break down a process for getting the things I want.
