We had the good fortune of connecting with Huguette Sarah Kenda-Misenga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Huguette Sarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Honestly and accountability, Adaptability, Strong support network, Continuous learning,
For me. Taking Accountability Is Empowering, and Having the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and situations is crucial for success. This includes being open to feedback, learning from mistakes, and being willing to change your approach when necessary. Having a supportive network of family, friends, and colleagues can provide valuable encouragement and motivation on your path to success.
What should our readers know about your business?
I always tell myself that if I don’t take any risks then I can’t expect things to change. Taking risks makes life more exciting and if things go well it’s very satisfying. Of course there is a possibility for a negative outcome but if you see it as a lesson learned it is worth it regardless. If I wouldn’t have taken any risks, I wouldn’t have started my business in a different country (South Africa), online, not knowing how to get my congolese community to trust me with their money from another country as I do not have n offical office in the yet DRC . I’d be safe but with a job that wouldn’t fulfill me. I took the risk and created something I am extremely proud of. I have made mistakes on the way but I’ve learned and adapted. Taking risks is important if you want create the life you want. I am most proud about the success of my travel business during a pandemic! It was tough but I challenged myself to stay productive and consistent during this downtime. I’m so glad that I did just that. The growth of my baby has been overwhelmingly amazing! I’m super excited to see how my brand grows this year.
The trials, restrictions and costs of traveling if you’re an African is why RUEDESLEY GLOBAL exist today. I aim not only to provide travel services to people but to show the world that we African can also try for pleasure and discovery. I cannot describe the incredulous looks when I said I was not visiting friends or family, but simply travelling as a tourist. I have traveled to 42 countries worldwide, 16 of them in Africa. I can claim to be an unofficial expert on visa affairs. What surprises me the most is that having made my peace with the fact I will almost always be treated with a certain level of suspicion when traveling outside the continent I still face the same challenges on the continent. This is especially true when I claim to be traveling simply for wanderlust—not as an economic migrant or a refugee. I chose to focus on additional factors that would make a middle class African more willing to go to Dubai, London or Paris on vacation rather than immediately thinking of going to another African country. This is a great loss to the continent as it means collectively we are not yet benefitting from the “Africa rising” rhetoric if huge proportions of tourist spending is not used within the continent.
In spite of these humiliations and possibilities of rejection, and despite the irony given our global histories, we still persist and this is what my business is all about
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Start your morning with the best donuts at Simply Done Donuts in Duluth. They make the best donuts I’ve ever had! This is a bold claim considering I’ve done full reviews of donuts of travel destinations like where I found the best donuts in Dublin. I suggest getting to Simply Done Donuts near their opening time to get the donuts hot and fresh! Start our day early at the the World of Coca-Cola. Sometimes tourist attractions can be a little hit or miss so I didn’t really know what to expect before visiting. After visiting I realized the World of Coca-Cola is a little bit of everything and I quite liked it. It’s part museum, factory, attraction, movie theater, refreshment stand, and more! Brunch at Atlanta Breakfast Club or Gus’s Fried Chicken, the food is delicious. Some of the best chicken and waffles in Atlanta are served here!Next up is the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. You could argue that this museum fits better in the history focused day, but as Atlanta is the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement has deep roots in the city, it is one of Atlanta’s main attractions. Plus it is located in Pemberton Place alongside the World of Coca-Cola and the aquarium. It makes the most sense to visit while you are in the area today. then head to the The Georgia Aquarium ,For me I had to see the dolphin show and the sea lion show! You don’t need to purchase separate tickets for the show, but currently you do need to make reservations the day of your visit. II saved the Georgia Aquarium for last not only because it is open later than other attractions, but it is also a relaxing way to end your day. After going through the aquatic tunnel within the ocean voyager exhibit, you reach the large viewing window with carpeted bleacher type seating in front. I loved sitting in this dimly lit room watching all the sea life, large and small, swim by. Don’t miss one of the Tiny Doors ATL near the entrance to the exhibit.
Tonight eat dinner somewhere in Midtown. Assuming you are staying in Midtown this will be very handy after your long day of touring the city. 26 Thai Kitchen and Bar Midtown is one of my favorite Thai places in the city. The interior design of the restaurant provides a nice ambience and the food is excellent. Farm Burger is perfect if you want something a little quicker. They are one of my favorite burger places in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my Congolese community who have been constantly promoting my business, using the services and never stop encouraging me. In particular, Hammac communication DRC, 243PRO-netowork. My family and friends for always supporting me since day one.
