We had the good fortune of connecting with Hudrats and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hudrats, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
We decided to pursue an artistic career because of the ability to express and convey messages to people without actually speaking. We love the idea that a song can completely change someone’s mood or help them get through a situation & want to be apart of that. As former hairstylists, creativity is something that we have molded into our brain & decided to take the art form from creating a style, to creating a song.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Coming from a small town, we decided that taking a hard risk would be the only way to grow in our field. Was it easy? Not at all, but we believe that sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination. We relocated 10 hours away to ATL with no support, just each other and decided to “stay down until we came up”. As black females, we understand that we have to work twice as hard as others in this field, and believe that being authentic to who we are is what will always set us apart from the crowd. We aren’t looking to be like one group or the other, but want people to feel a genuine connection between us and them. In shorten words, creating a fanbase that is like a family. We’ve learned that there is no silver bullet to being an artist, it takes consistency and dedication even when you don’t have the streams, the views, or no money coming in. You have to really be passionate about your craft and know that what’s for you, can only be for you. You can’t rush it or stop when it feels like your back is against the wall, because usually that is when your breakthrough arrives. We are proud of our ability to always bounce back and persevere even when the light at the end of the tunnel seems dim. We want everyone to know that as long as you remain true to the who and why in your life, anything is possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since we are new to ATL, we don’t know many spots, however… if we had to pick we would take them to Atlantic station & VVS on the southside.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to give a shoutout to everyone who believes in us. Slope, Elisha, T $, Chris, Cyn & Ona. As well as the tons of people who support us online.
