We had the good fortune of connecting with Henaku Yirenkyi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Henaku, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am an Orthopedic Surgeon that was in a group for about 5 years. I decided to open my own business because I felt the way care was provided in the large health care setting was devoid of personal care.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice is World Spine and Orthopedics LLC located in Decatur. Our mission is to provide excellent Spine and Orthopedic care in an environment that does not deprive off the patient/doctor relationship. We are proud to say we opened our practice in the middle of the Covid crises but have been able to survive for over a year. It was not easy making a business decision and trained as a physician. My desire to open this business was driven by my feeling towards personalized care. The challenges were initially getting into a business mind frame and executing the needed processes to build a new business. Eventually the challenge become surviving and growing. We are still overcoming these challenges as a new business. One important lesson I have learnt is to think small at the beginning and do not try to provide for what the growth of the business might need at the start. I will want the world to know our story is one of perseverance to provide care in our own way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Atlanta for fun, eat out in Buford for an assortment of cuisines, enjoy Stone Mountain Park and probably a quick short trip to Savanna
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My life partner and mother of two beautiful children, Gabriella Garufi has been the pillar through out this journey. The mentorship of Dr. Terrance Foster has been a tremendous help on this journey.
