We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Medlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Helen, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
“For the look on their face when their hero calls them by name” It sounds so cliche, but my biggest inspirations are the children I work for. There is actually something “magical” about the interactions I share with my clients and their children. When a little one truly believes that their hero has come to life out of a fairytale, just to visit them, the reaction is unmatched. The ability to make a child feel so special is a gift like no other. The real “magic” is so much more than a sparkly dress, a story, and a song. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that I can give a 4-year-old “the best birthday ever!”, but what truly inspires me is the opportunity to make a deep and lasting positive impact. I feel I have a real duty to the children I come in contact with to be a role model and hero, not only to entertain, but to reinforce the powerful lessons fairytales teach us; kindness, selflessness, generosity, and bravery. I founded my company to enchant and empower children to grow up slowly, to embody the values of fictitious royalty, and to eventually become someone else’s hero.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that sometimes, princesses have to save themselves. We can become our own heros and create our own fairytales. My company was my dream and I made it come true. #GirlPower

I am so proud of my company and how far we have come in the last 2 years. I was a freshly-divorced 20 year-old when I started this business. It was the Spring after I left a very short-lived, abusive marriage, and I was taking a semester off school to heal. I had just moved back home to Atlanta and I knew I needed to put my focus into something positive. I poured all of my time and energy into creating Helen Medlin Princess Parties. I added the characters I offer now as they were requested, and one-by-one, weekend by weekend, my company was formed. It was not easy, but it has been one of the absolute best experiences of my life. The formation of my company was honestly one of the most important parts of my personal healing journey. I felt a sense of reclaiming myself (and my last name) when Helen Medlin Princess Parties became a real business. I felt pride in myself and my accomplishments that I had forgotten was achievable. I found myself exactly where I was supposed to be- spending my time singing, with happy children, in a beautiful ballgown, covered head-to-toe in glitter.

Now, being a 22 year-old woman with my own entertainment company feels like a dream come true. I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self that this was written in our stars. I never would’ve believed it could be possible!

Helen Medlin Princess Parties is a children’s entertainment company, founded in the Spring of 2019. We are focused on providing high quality character experiences for children, families, and businesses across the state of Georgia. We are background-checked, 100% kid-approved event hostesses. We take pride in offering professional singers & performers, realistic costumes, and one-of-a-kind experiences that even parents will enjoy. One thing that sets us apart is our flexibility. We are experts at customizing and designing our performances to suit any & every event. Not only do we visit private families for birthday parties, but we bring the magic to other businesses & industries in the area by providing their clients, customers, and guests with spectacular performances & experiences as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First thing, I would take my friend downtown to explore. We would go to Centennial Park during one of their fountain shows, and then visit the Georgia Aquarium. We would visit Little Five Points to shop and people watch, then go to Krog Street Tunnel to look at the street art. We would eat dinner at the Sun Dial so I could show them the city views. Once it was dark, we would go see a movie at Starlight Drive-In. Another day, we would visit Ponce City Market to shop and eat, and then at dark, go up on to their rooftop for another awesome view. I would also probably take my friend to see a musical at the Fox, depending on what show was in town. We would have to be sure and visit my favorite restaurants, Melton’s App & Tap in Decatur, and Little Thai in Sandy Springs for food before they left. If the weather was nice, we would “Shoot the Hooch” and spend a day tubing down the Chattahoochee River. We would also have to go to Six Flags for at least half a day. On their last day, we would go eat Mexican food at Monterrey of Smyrna, stop for sweets from McEntyre’s Bakery, and then to shop at Love Street for souvenirs. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My real-life Fairy Godmother, Jane Davis- AKA “Nana” is my hero and number one fan. If it weren’t for her love and support, I would have never made it this far. I know for a fact my company would not exist without her. Her encouragement, wisdom, and investment in my future made my dreams a reality. I am here because she believes in me. I am forever grateful that God blessed me with her and I will spend the rest of my life trying to become the kind of person that deserves such an incredible grandmother.
