We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Milton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had an innovative and creative spirit which was likely handed down from both of my parents who were also entrepreneurs. Forging that path for myself was not daunting at all because I had observed them pursue their respective paths with excellence and success. So, the belief that I could also succeed was already ‘baked in’ you could say. I only needed to identify and determine what my special niche in business or service would be.
The book, “Why You Can’t Be Anything You Want to Be” by Arthur F. Miller was esspecially influential to my chosen career path. The author helps the reader to identify and understand their own personal Motivated Abilities Patterns (or M.A.P) to consider what types of work would best suit who they are as a person, and what truly motivates them to act with nearly autmated ease .
I identifed that I highly value relationships and opportunities where I can be of service for the greater good. I am an equal balance of people as well as task oriented. I also identified that I was a creative problem solver and a good communicator with patience to teach. It was extermely easy for me to see that the Industry of Professional Organizing would compliment my natrual abilities and interests that I had learned while uncovering my uniqe ‘M.A.P’ when I first learned about the field while watching the show ‘Mission Organization’ on HGTV over 20 years ago and my interest in learning more was immediately piqued.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My mission as a Professional Home Organizer is to help my clients create space for living a life they love. What sets me apart is my compassionate and kind and inquisative nature. I consider it an honor to be invited to journey along and provide support to help my clients in their goals and desire to create a home environment that supports their peace of mind that will inevtably allow them to live out their purpose with greater ease. Each home and individual family is different and requires patience and understanding to identify what will solve their dis order dilemma and I hope to provide my clients with new skills, confidence and potentially new ways of thinking about their spaces and their belongings to enhance and better manage their home environment for the long term.
When I organize with or for my clients, my focus is more than just creating a pretty space. My goal is to create functional systems that will enhance their experience in their day to day living environments that are simple and sustainable on a holistic level.
There are many different reasons a client would reach out for the help or support of a Professional Organizer and I aim help to meet them wherever they are and understand the limits they may be facing or the life circumstanses they have experienced that have them stuck or overwhelmed in achieving the order and serenity they crave for their home and life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they were visiting in the Summer, I would take them to the farmers Market at the charming Marietta square by day and to the roof top Ponce City market at night. Each location has scores of fantastic food options to choose from.
If kids were along, we’d definitely check out the Atlanta Aquarium or one of the Six Flags amuzement parks.
If we had visitors in the winter, I would recommend a visit to Atlantic Station for Outdoor Ice Skating during the holdiays, and there are tons of entertainment opportunities to choose from like movies, bowling, and the newest super fun photo opp attraction, Museum of Illusions – Atlanta.
Then, there’s always live music, comedy, or sporting events happening, so no matter what the season, I appreciate that Atlanta has an event or amusement for literally everyone!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have contributed to the sustainment, success, and growth in my business. Fellow organizer, Ellen Delap, was introduced to me by a mutual relationship in the early days of my busisness and she has been an icredible mentor, resource and encouragement through the many stages and phases that I have journeyed through.
When I first moved to Georgia in 2013, I found the Business Women of Fayette and Coweta County (BWFCC). It was a fantastic outlet to network and support one another as women in business in that region. So many of the women in that group have inspired, influenced and supported me in many special ways, Ellie White-Stevens and Patti Kadkhodaian to name just a few.
Business Coach, Connie Jones, was extremely instrumental in enhancing my vision for my business, especially when I went through a major unexpected life transition.
When I eventually relocated to Cobb county in 2020, I began the hunt for my new networking communities and found multitudes of amazing options like the Marietta and Acworth Business Associatons and several local BNI groups that each have genuine an engaging members committed to each other’s success.
My biggest Shoutout goes to my wonderful Husband, Shawn, who is always my biggest fan and support in life and business alike.
