Meet Heavy Crownz | Recording artist, Community servant, creative director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heavy Crownz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heavy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I see risk like dice, I see risk like bridges and doorways. Taking risks has been one of the most critical components to my musical journey. At one point in my life I was a full time teacher working in a position that did not tap into my full potential. it was at this time that I knew I had to take my music more seriously. it was beginning to feel like life or death. The money was good and the youth loved me but I was deeply unhappy and nearly depressed. I needed a way out. And then it happened, one of my fellow artists Hakim Dough offered me the chance to go on an independent tour focused around the history of the red summer riots of 1919 ; self funded and completely DIY , but it was just what i needed. Going on tour would require me to quit my teaching job and would force me to figure out a way to sustain myself through music . Since June 2019 I haven’t looked back. Five mixtapes later, Sold out shows, a second tour and this time with Mother Nature , created a lifestyle brand GRDN SUPPLY, and saw my fan base increase like never before. Risk is opportunity.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Heavy Crownz aka Farmer Crownz is the head farmer, who went deep in the soil in order to grow the community garden for all the farmers. To be a Farmer you gotta be down to plant a seed. ” Planting seeds” is simply giving an encouraging word, a compliment, a hug. Whatever that leads a person to growth. I am most proud of being able to create a life God can be proud of. I’m from the south side of Chicago, englewood , 63rd street. I came from the streets, I wasn’t a house kid. I always knew I wanted more though. I got the chance to go to college and I took it. I had been rapping since I was 10 but while in college Is when I really began to grab my shovel. Once I graduated I moved back to Chicago and got to work. I did every kind of show or open mic you can imagine, from the south burbs to the north side , to the west burbs, I took the humble route and I honed my craft. There was always challenges, people over looking me , trying to finesse me, etc. but through it all I stay focused on God and creating a world where the coolest farmers live and flourish, a place where serving others is respected and a joint a day to keep the vibes in place is a norm. As I grew in the knowledge of self I began to blossom creatively, even beyond rap. Acting, Creative direction in branding, event curation, and even fashion design. Theres nothing I cant do. One thing I want the world to remember is that it’s important to always give yourself grace , The creator loves you, and you can create the life you desire, it all starts with a seed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever you in my city, be sure to grab some gear from traphouse Chicago or leaders, slide to “can’t believe its not meat” or soul veg city for the south side vegan eats and then hit The promontory Chicago for the live music and event vibes. you can get a good drink nearly anywhere. and Don’t forget to hit lake shore one time, just to ride and spark one.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Firstly all praise to the most High, secondly my family, and lastly Diryte Everyday, Trap house Chicago, and the Gr8thinkaz . I only grow with Farmers and all these different communities have blessed my life truly.
