We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
As an educational consultant, it’s often assumed that we work exclusively with schools. As an educator, I am an expert in learning – and there isn’t an industry that doesn’t need a learning expert. Educational consultants who have been successful as practicing educators are able to transfer their knowledge about learning to any industry, any age group, and any setting. And educators are usually the MOST organized and structured people on the planet, so we are very focused on exceeding the goal and exceeding your expectations!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Cross & Dot, LLC is the premier educational consulting firm in the country. We support over 25 schools, districts, businesses, and non-profit organizations in helping their people and places become their best. We are doing this by providing innovative and strategic learning solutions that are perfect for each client. What sets us apart is our experience – we are practicing educational leaders, teachers, and managers using our expertise to support our clients. Experience is our greatest teacher and when great experience combines with a collaborative, better seeking learning community of professionals…well, only great things can happen!
Cross & Dot was created because after about 5 years as a school leader of a charter school, I began to realize that the education community needed its leaders to be able to break out of their silo and share their experiences with other leaders. Educational leadership is very isolating – you are focused so intensely on your school that it becomes almost impossible to network and collaborate with other school leaders – and you miss out on the opportunity to problem solve and be creative with the only people who understand your challenges. Cross & Dot is able to bridge these gaps by working with a variety of schools and businesses and sharing the strategies with our clients that have been successful (or not) among our commuity. We believe very strongly in collaboration and learning from experience – our own and that of others.
Being in the business of education is not and never will be easy. But it’s SO rewarding. Seeing our learners get better at their job or achieve better outcomes for their business or school is amazing. We have challenges for sure, but we overcome them by being innovative and strategic – setting goals, and executing on those goals through creative problem solving and teamwork. And this same mentality is the foundation for our work with clients: we are committed to being innovative and strategic in finding perfect solutions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many options in Atlanta! First priority would be food – we’d eat at some of my favorites: Farm Burger, Naan, Desta, The Optimist, Negril ATL, and have brunch at the Four Seasons on Sunday. We’d take in some exhibits at Woodruff, see a show at Alliance, and get some fresh air at the Botanical Gardens. For fun, we’d definitely do the ferris wheel in Centennial Park, roller skating in the West End, and check out the College Football Hall of Fame. Can’t leave Atlanta without visiting the King Center and the Center for Civil and Human Ri9hts. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my sons, Jhared and Jordan. My sons are absolutely my WHY. Everything I do, I do because I want them to have a great life and a limitless education. Jed and Jordy, this is for YOU!
