We had the good fortune of connecting with Haydeé Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haydeé, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a creative path because art gives me the freedom to turn lived experiences, emotions, and ideas into something tangible. It allows me to challenge perspectives and create spaces where people feel seen or understood.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I got here through trial and error, self-learning, and staying committed even when progress was slow. I faced challenges such as limited resources and moments of doubt, but I overcame them by continuously improving my skills, and trusting my vision.

Along the way, I learned that consistency matters more than perfection and authenticity matters more than approval.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Macon, I would take them to the Harriet Tubman Museum, the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park where there is an American Indian site, and to eat I would take them to Oliver’s Corner Bistro. If in Atlanta, I would take them to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Fernbank museum, and the High Museum. I would also take them to the aquarium. I would also take them to a restaurant named 246 in Downtown Decatur.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my wife Roslyn Johnson. She is my silent partner. I wouldn’t be able to do this without her. She has always encouraged me to follow my dreams.
