We had the good fortune of connecting with Haspil Lafontant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haspil, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Discipline and hunger are the main factors in my opinion in which deals with how willing you are to further in your endeavor. Not matter how passionate that you are, what do you rely on when trials flood at your doorsteps?

I’ve came toe to toe with that in the recent months, It didn’t neglect how passionate I was but tested in fact how passionate I was about to. And that is when I reached the depths of the hunger I had for my music.. the desperation for a shift in my life stance has driven me ever since I’ve started.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My emotions drive the construction of my art. Everything that I pour into my music comes from the stems of my heart. I may not know exactly what to say in the moment that I may have the thoughts but I know exactly how to flush it on a notepad. My body takes over.. my spirit is one with the production of a beat

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Drink – The Battery at Goldbergs

Eat – Italian Restaurant named “ Eataliano “ I’d order them a fettuccine Alfredo with an added salmon ontop

Visit – A park located in Smyrna that has a lake located near the back of the library… trees, ducks, variety of people.. etc .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have several people that I would love to shout out actually

Kevious Clark – life long friend/Brother we regained connection from not being in contact since our separation from middle school. Ran into each other at one of my older jobs and have reconnected as if we never lost connection

Jamaal Combest – Him and I had an IMMEDIATE click from the day I met this dude at a cafeteria table at my high school. He is someone that in doubt.. when he’s available I can count on. A brother I longed for when I was a child in school

Kennedy Johnson – Lol we share the same zodiac and we’re damn near the exact replica of each other. We share similarities in how we cope in things or handle situations or even come to mutual ground about certain topics and discussions. A female me.

Eric Alston – A father figure, a mentor. A wisemen. Pushes you to reach of your potential by expanding your knowledge about how life works and how to apply it to your daily life. In whatever that you do.

Breona Moss – An Unexpected bond blossomed from thin air. She’s been a light in support, an active ear when needed and an aroma of fresh air when it comes to energy. She’ll swim the earth for you.
