We had the good fortune of connecting with Harold Greaves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harold, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
People always say that if you do what you love, you’ll never “work” a day in your life. I have loved photography for as long as I can remember so it seemed like just a natural progression that I would pursue it as a career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got into photography when I was in college. I just thought it was so beautiful to be able to capture moments of time and tell a story through imagery. As I started to get more serious about my work, I found that I had a way to bring out the best in people through photographs. I would routinely have people tell me that they had never looked or felt as good as they did in the photos I took of them, and that’s when I knew that this was my “calling”.

I started my photography business while I was still working a full time job. I would work my day job in the mornings and afternoons and schedule my photoshoots for the evening and do events on the weekends. I learned a lot about effective time management, and when I would over-schedule myself, I learned the hard way that you can’t be effective at any job if you don’t get a decent amount of rest. I’ve learned that it’s important to push yourself and never be afraid to try new things. Success only comes to the “Do-ers”, not the “I’ve got a great idea-ers”. You don’t have to get it right the first time, or the second time, heck or the third. The important thing to remember that as long as you persevere, you don’t fail…you either succeed or your learn lessons that will help you succeed in the future.

Overall, I want my photographs to inspire positivity. I want people to see their best selves through my photos. I want people to be able to relive the best parts of a memorable event through my photos. I want to be able to show the beautiful and unique features of different parts of the world through my photos. I know it may sound corny or cliche, but I want to be a light to the world with my photos.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Eating spots would have to include Iron Age Korean BBQ in Kennesaw and Gumbeaux’s Cajun Cafe in Douglasville. Both have great food and ambience and just a nice vibe. We’d have to hang out at Ponce City Market, take pics at the Krog Tunnel, and have drinks at the Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta. I’d also have to take them to Magic City and Cheetah’s so they can see another one of the things that Atlanta is famous for.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout has to go to my whole family. They have been a constant source of love and support throughout my journey. My wife El has served as my assistant for many years, I’ve received guidance and advice from my brother, sisters and cousins, and my mother has always been my biggest cheerleader. I’ve also worked with an amazing array of makeup artists, hair stylists, clothing designers, show promoters, and models throughout the years who have made this an unforgettable ride!
