We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Hendricks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, what inspires you?
My inspirations comes in waves and is shaped by a variety of things. Right now I’m most inspired by digital aesthetics, bright colors, and recent psychological studies. I’m excited to see what comes from that combination.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I graduated with my BFA in Studio art in 2018, and since then my art has evolved as I’ve started to incorporate different styles and mediums into it. I’m most proud of the gallery work I’ve done, and the work I did during the 2020 covid shutdown. Such as starting an online critique group, participating in many online gallery shows, and raising money for Atlanta solidarity. Recently, I’ve moved towards working more with digital art, and I’ve been making filters for Instagram, it’s been so much fun diving into a new medium. Honestly, no it wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. I think most creatives have had struggles when it comes to their work, but having a good support system and the ability to be real with yourself does wonders for self encouragement. I just want the world to look at my work and have to think about it. Art’s not meant to be digestible the first time you see it, no matter the response I get from people I want it to take up space in their minds.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For food we’d have to hit up Soul Vegetarian at least once, if I could I would eat there everyday. We’d probably also hit up green sprout, envegan, and Banshees. Drink wise Sister Louisa’s, the Highlander, and 97 Estoria are a few of my favorite places. We’d also have to check out all the local art galleries- MINT, WhiteSpace, and The Bakery always have some awesome shows going on. I also love the Atlanta Botanical Garden, but honestly who doesn’t? After we hit up all those places we’d end the week by chilling at Jeju, literally the best spa in Atlanta.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give credit to Miranda and our late night taco bell trips and screaming our heads off to Cherry Bomb in her car. To Olivia for thrifting adventures, going to late night art shows, and getting lost on hiking trails. To my father for raising me with an unconventional view of the world, and to youtube tutorials for always having my back when I have no idea what I’m doing.
