We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenn Zekser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Glenn, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work-life balance has changed a lot for me over the years. I used to rag doll myself into workloads that were completely unreasonable and figure it out as I went. Everything in my life suffered for it, which should be expected, because I put myself less than last on my list of things I need to maintain. I learned from it, though. These days, I know how to gauge what I can handle and for how long.

I know that if I have next week completely booked up, I shouldn’t try to max out my time this week, given the choice. Being in the music industry, you don’t always have that choice. It’s not uncommon for me to have 3 weeks or more without a day off, so I plan my rest strategically.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mastering is a process that takes audio that’s already been recorded, edited, and mixed to the next level. It elevates the music in loudness, clarity, and flavor while also preparing it for its release medium (i.e. streaming, CD, vinyl, etc.). Mastering is the last creative process a piece of music goes through before release and for that reason, it is incredibly important to have a high-quality listening environment and tools to process the audio. I’m very proud of the work I’m able to do with the arsenal of processors I’ve built up, both because of their quality and the skills I’ve developed to use them. My process has changed many times since I started my practice and it will continue evolving as the needs of my clients develop.

Starting your own business isn’t easy, but here I am! I would say the most important part of getting my business going has been a relentless work ethic, but close behind it might be client relations. It’s extremely important that whatever you do is great, but to also be flexible and understand that there isn’t much point to your work if it doesn’t match your client’s vision for their project. I try to make hospitality as well-developed a practice as what I do with music.

What I’d like the world to know most is that I’m here and I want to work with you to give your music that little extra magic before it’s let loose on the world! I love the variety of projects I get to work on and experiencing all the cool things people are making!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I’m grateful for in my life that helped me get to where I am and allow me to do what I do. My friends and family are my lifeline when things are rough. My clients give me so many exciting things to work on and be apart of. My coworkers are people I can lean on if something is out of my skillset. My mentors pointed me in the right directions so I could become better at all of the things I do. If you’re one of these people in my life, thank you.
