Meet Gi’Vonta Young | Barber

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gi’Vonta Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gi’Vonta, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is showing them that if you believe in yourself, and trust that gut feeling you’ll do fine in whatever you pursue. I want my kids to know that their dad gave his all in becoming the best at what he does, I want them to have that same drive to know that whatever they want, with hard work they can have it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bringing about 15 years of experience to the craft, I attribute my eye for blending and lining hair as my unique standard and the very thing that sets me apart in the barbering industry. Though cutting hair was a natural gift, I developed a sincere respect for my craft through the process of education and personal development. I never lost my will to be taught. I never saw my self as “too big” to learn. I have found that the more I was willing to educate myself and couple it with experience, the more I was able to see the importance of my craft. I now have not only experience, and licensing under my belt, but I am also an instructor; able to teach others the skill and technique I acquired on my own journey. I had every reason to quit, whether it was self doubt, life’s setback, personal failures, you name it. I just continued to tell myself “you cannot quit”. I kept going. If it is one thing I can inspire people in the field to do; its to become a life-time learner and to never quit on your talent, or yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they are looking to visit Birmingham I’d tell them to visit me … Let me get you right before you step out!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my family, friends, clients and Dr Allison for believing in me and my talents, because without them I would’ve given up a long time ago…. That’s what got me through
