We had the good fortune of connecting with Girls Running Shit Girls Running Shit and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Girls Running Shit, how does your business help the community?
Not only do we uplift local women and femmes in the city, but we also try to make an impact through our social media platforms to be a resource to our community. We highlight the local events, fundraisers, businesses and more! We also bring those who are doing great things in the city onto our podcast to share more about themselves and spotlight who they are and what they do. We host our Speak Your Truth Open Mic Nights where local spoken word artist had a safe space to express themselves by speaking their truth. Whatever it was on their hearts, minds, spirits – they were able to connect to their community from being in a trusting group. We also hosted meet ups/happy hours for creatives in the city (podcast, artists, photographer, etc.) to connect and network.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Girls Running Shit is a podcast hosted by three black women who want to spread the word on self love, self worth and mental health in Pittsburgh, PA. We feel that it’s important to provide a platform for women and femmes to feely uplifted, supported and cared for. After reports were published about the lack of safety and support of black women in the city of Pittsburgh, we decided to go harder in pursuing our mission. We truly are just ourselves and have been well-received by the community. We want to pour as much positivity and love into this city, but especially by supporting the local black women and femmes. We try to focus on women-owned businesses/events/creatives and feature many other local creatives who are doing great things – no matter how they identify. We are proud of the success we’ve seen so far and the opportunities that have become available to us and others with this platform. We often say we want this to be bigger than us in hopes of providing better opportunities for those who come after us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If it’s a nice day, we would definitely take them to Point State Park to see the fountain and lay/sit in the grass enjoying the cool breeze off of the water. Then we would head over to Casa Brasil (IG: @casabrasilpgh) for some Afro-Brazilian cuisine and then head over to Fudge Farm (IG: @fudge_farm) for some dessert! Afterwards, we’ll go to Mount Washington to the Overlook for a beautiful view of Downtown Pittsburgh!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to thank our families, friends and everyone in the city that has supported us so far! From the guests who have agreed to be on our show, everyone who bought Girls Running Shit merch to support the podcast and also to those who have donated money or items to support our We Care Kits. We truly thank you ALL!
