We had the good fortune of connecting with Giovanni Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Giovanni, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, for one… I knew that it would start with me investing into myself. Starting a business or any venture that you have to financially invest in on your own can be challenging! The end goal of it if you stay consistent is worth it, but it takes a determined individual to get to that point.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ll start by saying what sets me apart from others is the ability to be a jack of all trades. Everything that I present comes from me. Of course, I would love a team, but that will happen when the timing aligns to have one. From day one, it’s just always been my engineer and I in the studio. What I’m most proud of is always being authentic with my art and never allowing outside ears determine what type of music I make. Through this journey, it has been both good and bad times… but those moments in my life helped me grow and evolve into who I am today. One lesson that I learned along the way is do what makes you happy, regardless of what the naysayers have to say. Live for you and God, and everything else that doesn’t align or bring you peace isn’t important. I seen this quote recently and it said…“unspoken expectations are premeditated resentments.” It really resonated and triggered me. Then, then I realized… I disappointed my own self by expecting something or someone to be the way I wanted them to be. We all have to go through certain experiences in life that molds us into who we are meant to truly be. My eighth anticipated studio project, Soft Boy Era, is available now everywhere on all streaming platforms.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I live here in Atlanta and I have been a resident for 2 years now! I would always visit prior to moving here, so it’s always been my second home. The itinerary would definitely include Taco Tuesday, maybe go to some parks (now that it’s summer time), and some fun nights out in the city! There’s literally so many different things you can do here, but those are just a few.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a major shoutout to my engineer, Trae Berry, for being the goat that he is and being one of the dopest engineers I’ve ever worked with!
