We had the good fortune of connecting with Gavin Harden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gavin, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal is to create quality stories that I and people like me enjoy, and to actually be paid for it. By the end of my career, I would like to be an established well-known writer, actor and producer. I would like to create jobs for people in the film industry and open up opportunities for the students at Hampton University. Give them the guidance and opportunities I didn’t have while attending the university.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that sets me apart from other artists is that I create stories that I like and for people that like what I like. I am most excited about the anthological series that I have coming out soon Im thinking about calling it Gavins shorts. It will consist of 3 short stories, Black Men Don’t Cheat, Set up, and Dragon ball Universe Zero. I will have a movie premiere for these films as soon as they are completed. I started off writing little skits in my notes on my phone. They were just Ideas until one day I decided to take a chance and produce one of them. When you have a group of like-minded people around you it can be fairly easy. Alot of challenges that I have faced mostly comes from the people that said they were going to do something and didn’t come through. I’ve seen a lot of people’s true colors, and these are things that I will never forget. Luckily, I have God on my side, and he blessed me with reliable people that helped me complete the projects as needed. A big lesson that I’ve learned is that not everyone wants to see you win. Which is okay, make them watch from the sidelines. I want the world to know That Harden Power Productions is technically something that my dad created. When I was younger, my dad told me and my siblings to put our hands in and scream Harden Power on 3. It was like our thing. Obviously, this stuck with me throughout my life. My dad made me feel like Hardens can achieve whatever we want as long as we had the support of each other. Today I stand to prove that right. Harden Power Productions is built on the idea of family and support. So, when you employ my company for anything, you can expect a reliable. friendly, family member supporting you and helping you achieve your goals just as my family does for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hit Apple Bees (for the drinks), BQE, Boogloo, Suit food lounge, Iron ages and a revolving sushi spot are some of the most memorable places I’ve been. If we go anywhere, we gotta go to Bonfire, the vibe out there is dope.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I gotta give a shout out to my family. My parents, Lloyd and Valeria Harden have groomed me to be the man I am today. They’ve taught me to be a leader which influenced me to create my own content and take more risks in life. They also constantly remind me to never give up and keep God first. My brother and sister Jeremy and Briana Harden are my number one fans, they love and support all of my work. Whether its helping me produce a project, helping out on set, or just being an actor in the film, they’ve always had my back as kids and nothing has changed now. Thank you for the over whelming support.
Shout out to my Hampton University actors that are always in my films, Jasmine, CJ, Clayton and Imani have each shown great dedication and helped me bring a lot of my first films to life and for that I am forever grateful.
Shout out to the best camera men and editors I know John, Trey, and Mick. I cant find anyone with more talent than these 3 guys. When I didn’t have anyone to film or edit my shorts these guys stepped up and helped me out. Even taught me a few things to do when filming, helping make my films a lot better.
To every individual that I have just named, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Thank you for believing in me, Thank you for seeing the vision and supporting my stories in the way you did. You all are a large part of my success, I really could not have done any of this without you all.
