We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Ryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett! Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?Elite Carpet & Matting Company specializes in branding through custom flooring products. We provide entry logo mats, locker room flooring, gym runners, and gym floor covers to full turn-key flooring installations. We service all industries but our main focus has been on universities and schools. After years of serving our customers that manage the top athletic programs in the country, we understand their needs. What sets us apart from others is our experience. We have serviced over 1000 schools nation-wide. We are constantly striving to better serve our customers by listening to their needs and creating flooring solutions for them.

How do you think about risk?
As a business owner, you constantly make decisions that involve risks. Risk-taking is the ability to weigh the pros and cons of a choice and make the best calculated decision after considering all factors. You have to be okay with making a mistake, because it will definitely happen. Learning from those mistakes, in my opinion, is where real growth happens. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is that in order to grow you have to get out of your comfort zone. For me, regret is more painful than failure.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite spots in town is Fellini’s pizza. It’s inexpensive and they are all over town so no matter where you are staying, you should be able to find one. If they would like to go to the Beltline, my wife and I love Reformation, Monday Night Brewing or Ladybird. If they are wanting to explore downtown Atlanta, College Football Hall of Fame is a fun spot. Piedmont Park is a great place to go for a walk and they have events year-round. My wife and I live in the suburbs now which offers its own great menu of things to do. You can usually find us eating outside on the balcony of Roswell Provisions on Canton Street or at Variant or Gate City breweries. Standard has our favorite pizza in Roswell and they usually have live music on a patio.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Emily. Having a supportive spouse is critical, especially when you are an entrepreneur. She has been there for me through all of the ups and downs of my business, but more importantly life in general. She’s my rock and I would not be where I am today without her. She is extremely talented and has helped the business in several different facets.
