We had the good fortune of connecting with Gaetan Collaud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gaetan, how does your business help the community?
All my music are inspired from my Haitian heritage. Sharing this to the world brings awareness to a part of my country that the world know so little about!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started as a bedroom producer at age 14, making a few beats here and there and met Gardy Girault who taught me how to DJ and then everything else came from there.
My style is heavily inspired by Haitian culture and old traditions. I love blending different genres like EDM and Rara which is one of many traditional genres of Haiti. I believe this bring something new and refreshing to the world.
It’s not easy to be a musician or artist in Haiti because of the unstability and insecurity in the country. But this also gives me strenght to continue and be an example to others that you can still do what you love and succeed no matter what.
So far i’ve accomplished alot including joining the grammy nominated Haitian band “Boukman Eksperyans” and together we toured the biggest Arenas of Europe, Usa & Canada.
Made my own band “Gwolobo” with Paul Beaubrun, ManitoNation, Kabysh & Titanbou and together we played the biggest festivals of Haiti Including PapJazz, made a few sold out shows in Cap-Haitian & Port-Au-Prince and more to come for sure!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Huge shoutout to the people who helped me trough my career such as Gardy Girault (Haitian Dj & Producer), Michael Brun (Grammy winning producer from Haiti) and people from my band including Paul Beaubrun (Legendary Haitian Singer and Guitarist), ManitoNation, Kabysh & Titanbou!
